I have always, always known that when the time came I wanted to use a deep, rich blue in my wedding (if you want to see what I'm talking about, David's Bridal calls it Marine) http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridalparty.jsp

Now that the time has come, I don't know what other colors to use with the blue. The only thing I can really think of is a lighter blue and silver. I want one color for the bridesmaids (the dark blue) and then another for the maid of honor, but I don't really want the maid of honor in light blue, and I don't think silver will work. Plus I feel the dark blue with silver is too common. I have also considered the dark blue with either creme or like a buttercreme (pastel yellow). What do you think? I don't want to use white because I don't want the maid of honor in white (for obvious reasons). Thanks.

Please give me suggestions of not only what to do for the color of the maid of honor's dress, but also what to do for the other colors for the wedding. I do not intend for the deep blue to be the only color for my wedding. Some answers seem to understand that but some don't so I just wanted to clarify. Thanks for your suggestions!

almost any shade of light pink would be a really pretty counterpoint, or lime green. You could easily work those colors into bouquets too

I think the deep blue, lighter blue and silver are all you need.

For the maid of honor dress you can have the lighter blue, and the bridesmaids in the darker blue with silver accents. Maybe you can find the same stle dress with different color sashes.

Another idea is to have your maid of honor in a silver color (not shimmery but like a platinum gray).

I am sure you will find the best combination, take your girls out dress shopping and see what you find!

How about putting your MOH in a soft gold color, with the dark blue as a trim/sash color and the maids in the opposite. The gold color will be a nice contrast but still in the 'warm' hues, rather than the icy silvers. Even if your dress was an ivory color she'd still be different. At that point your flowers could be any color from reds and pinks to gorgeous deep oranges. If you are having ribbons for the gals bouquets, offset them with opposing colors (maids in gold ribbons/ MOH in blue) If you are having a flower girl, I'd put her in the gold color as well.

I recently went to a wedding where this same color of blue was used. The bride's dress was a mother-of-pearl color (not silver, not white, but not cream, either) and had a few accents of the blue color in the corset. The bridesmaid's dresses were the blue color but had a small amounts of the mother-of-pearl worked into the material. The effect was very subtle, but it also looked very nice. It did not distract from the bride's dress at all. It was all topped off with matching blue roses along the isles/chairs. Good luck!

I also like the silver, just because it's been done before doesn't mean you shouldn't do it for you. (Of course, assuming you like it, if not please disregard!) The MOH can have a dress in the same color, but different style. Other colors that would look good are creamy yellow, grey, platinum, or red.

USMC Wife has some beautiful pictures of red and blue. But I notice hers was a winter holiday time wedding. You might not want so much bright red, but I thought it was beautiful.

If this were my wedding, I'd definitely go with the silver. I think those colors look pleasing together and not too busy. I think other deep rich tones such as burgundy or hunter green would compete too much with the blue. As Shandee says, it's a classic combination that works well.

As to what you pick, go with your gut reaction. If you don't like silver, definitely don't go with it. You can use white, but dress the MOH in a slightly different style of dress.

The main color for my wedding is dark blue as well. I haven't decided on the marine or navy, though, from DB...it depends on which bridesmaids dresses my girls like best. The colors I'm putting with it are champagne and ivory with a few gold accents. You may consider putting all of your bridesmaids in the same color, but have the maid of honor wear a champagne or ivory sash or ribbon tied around the waist of her dress.

The flowers are going to be comprised of dark blue, light blue, and cream colored roses and calla lilies. My centerpieces are champagne round floating candles next to gold rose floating candles in glass bowls with possibly dark blue stones in the bottom. I haven't really decided on the rest of the decorations yet.

I hope this helps!

Beautiful color to choose! My advice to you is...try to get some color swatches and compare the blue to other colors. What may work on a screen or in a magazine may not look nice together in person.

However, I would suggest going with a different deep blue gown for your MOH and have ribbon or something else attached in a lighter color. Or, you can go with the dress in a cream or buttercream color.

Is the deep blue your only color for the wedding? I think silver is beautiful to with it -- or you can choose like a metallic grey colored gown for her.

Whatever you choose, good luck!

♥ That is a beautiful color! :-) The ice blue & silver would look great with that blue but since you dont really wanna go with that how about the pastel yellow would compliment it beautiful, as would coral pink, a berry color [[some shade of red or mulberry]], a seafoamy green, aqua, etc. Good Luck and Congratulations!

I don't like silver at all for a wedding, it just doesn't go.
The world is your oyster here, you can pair anything with the marine blue. The buttercreme is nice, so would the right shade of coral, burnt orange, periwinkle, teal or rose. If you want bright - go for hot pink, aqua, bright yellow, lime...

Well, I would stay away from using more than one dark color unless you are getting married in the wintertime. I prefer lights paired with darks & I think in your case a pastel yellow or light minty green would be beautiful with the deep blue & create balance. Use this to see how the colors would look together :
