I mean all the oil, toxic sludge etc that got mixed in with the water. And dosen't anyone care about the long-term effects it could have on our delicate ecosystem?

the hurricane whipped it up and spread it around all over the place. Some has settled into the ground. That which could be drained or flushed went into the Gulf of Mexico and added to the Dead Zone there.

I can't think anyone except the truly naive believed those stories. The testing that was done of the water was revealed what a flood in any urban area would reveal: lead, etc. New Orleans is not some highly industrialized area, it's mostly houses and service industry. When the flood waters went down there was probably less lead in the ground than would likely be found in any city pre-dating unleaded gas.

Now, outside of the city in St. Bernard Parish there was the huge oil spill caused when a refinery's container collapsed. Last time I heard, Murphy Oil has offered a settlement in the class-action brought against them. Like everything else relating to that storm, the media twisted facts or simply didn't use an ounce of common sense. I saw a number of reports where they would talk about the refinery and its effect upon the City of New Orleans, nevermind the fact that the refinery is 15 miles away.

Although there was major work done to clean up after Hurricane Katrina, it was not ongoing as it should have been. This project will last for many years but it requires continued vigilance. Remember this, What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. - Psalm 68:19 Peace and God Bless.

Some of it was cleaned up, some of it drained into the Gulf, but the bulk of it remained on the ground after the waters evaporated.

What pollution? You mean dirty water? It drained or was pumped into the ocean.

It went back from whence it came, the ground in New Orleans.

Next flood it will be right back.
