I'm 115 and I want to lose 5-10 pounds
I don't want to starve myself
but I think I should cut down the amount
of food I eat

So I am 5'3" and 117 lbs... Actually gaining weight right now due to the fact I am finally building muscle...

I am working with a personal trainer for the past 2 months now and have changed my eating habits (lifestyle)... He has explained that for what I want (A healthy and very athletic tone body) I should be only taking in 1100 calories a day which means that I have 2 snacks that are about 120 calories each... and 3 meals that are around 285 calories each... Its difficult to do at times but achievable... I don't always follow that and sometimes just eat something healthy cause of how I feel and how hungry I am...

Trying to have a guideline is great but don't try to follow it to a 'T' cause that isn't good... You can't maintain anything too strict and I learned you also need to listen to your body sometimes... If your body is telling you it needs a BIG meal and you are hungry then eat more than that calorie allowance... Your body knows what it needs more than numbers on a chart...

1 cup special k cereal 110
1/2 cup milk 45
1 small banana 70-100 calories
a gronola bar w/ lots of fiber and protein 140 calories so
the total runs 365 calories - 395 calories
it usually keeps me full for up to 5 hours at the most, and i excercise about an hour after eating that

You should be eating 250 calories average per meal. Try eating 6 small portioned meals with 120-135 calories per small meal through out he day. This will stabalize metabolism and will slowly increase it.

how tall are you? usually you drop to 1500 a day but if that doesn't work then less, but no less than 1200.
