an oral presentation before the eighth week of class. i have social anxiety and get very paranoid in situations where i am the center of attention, even with the smallest amount of people. i can be in a small group of three or four of my friends and get an attack. I guess what I'm asking is 1) Should I do it and 2) How do I keep my imminent attack from getting too bad where it will interfere with my speech?

Practice your speech to your stuffed animals, if any. Say it over and over again. Know what you're going to say, and how you're going to say it. Once you're comfortable with that, try doing it in front of friends.

I give speeches and do public speaking often, and I still get rushes from the first few minutes of standing in front of a large group of people. Remember to slow down your speaking and enjoy the feeling, the danger, of being up there.

Good luck!

Public speaking, when you think about it that way, can be stressful.

Another way of thinking about it is, that it is no different than talking to yourself.

In fact you are talking to yourself.

You are telling yourself that you are nervous and anxious when you are in front of people.

Stop focusing on how you feel.
Most people are more interested in themselves. They are focusing on what they think and feel.

So focus instead on how to make your presentation. Read a book and get a system for making a presentation.

Pretend you are an actor giving the best performance of your life. Rehearse giving that speech in your most confident manner.

You'll do well.

well im assuming it's too late for you to take a speech class for it to help you with this assignment. but i would DEFINETLEY recommend it soon! what you should do is practice in front of family members, and friends. just get them together in small groups and ask them to be your audience. tell them to check your eye contact your voice your posture.. these are all the things that your teacher will be looking for ask them for constructive critism. good luck i know it sounds like it's impossible but it's not

That happenes to me also and thats why i avoid going out ..
i hate people to look at me and give me their attention
If you think you can handle it go and take something with you like an MP3 to distract you from being paranoid i think it will help you greatly ...
Or may be you can explain the situation to your teacher ,
Good luck dear

If you want the extra points, definitely do it. Talk to your doctor about an anxiolitic med and take it before your presentation.

yeah do it for the extra 10points! i dont think this would help but try putting a coin under your foot inside your shoes(it might do the trick). ;) but of course, prepare and practice. :)

Goodluck!
