Mounting and humping behaviors can be many things, but it is not, as many believe, an attempt at dominance (if it were, wouldn't biting you be much more efficient?).

Many things can cause this behavior, such as overstimulation (too much excitement in the environment) and/or stress.

I recommend going to your local Dollar Store and purchasing a couple of leashes. Cut those leashes to about 12" and leave one hanging on her collar at all times. If she chews it, don't worry about it, it only cost a dollar.

Now, when she mounts you, grab that handle without saying anything and simply hold your arm out at a length where she can't reach you. Do not make eye contact with her during this time, as eye contact is attention. When she calms down or sits, praise her and redirect her attention to another activity, such as chewing on a bone, playing with a toy, obedience exercises, etc.

To extinguish the behavior entirely, immediately put her outside for 10-15 seconds each and every time she mounts you, so that she learns that this is the only consequence to this behavior.

You may have to repeat this 10-12 times - trying something 2-3 times is not going to tell you whether or not it works, especially if she has been inadvertently rewarded for her behavior with your attention 25 times! This creates the slot-machine effect - if she keeps repeating her behavior, it will pay off eventually. The more consistent you are, the faster she will learn.

Reprimanding her, pushing her away, etc., is all attention. If she has developed this behavior as a way to get your attention, these things are going to reward it. The other problem with reprimands and other suggestions like this is that they only stop the behavior after she's already started it.

As far as the recommendations for "leadership", it can help to provide your dog with some structure and boundaries, but it will not stop the behavior, itself. I've linked some articles below that give clear guidelines on how to do this.

First thing is - is she "fixed"??? If not, that will probably be the end of that...
If she is humping other dogs, that is simply an act of hierarchy, showing who is boss.
Humping human legs can be ended by lifting a knee up and GENTLY pushing the knee cap into the chest of the dog. Doing this along with a loud "NO!" will usually stop the behavior fairly quickly. Note, everyone in the family must do this collectively, you can't cure this problem with one person allowing it and thinking it is funny, while another does not. Remember, I did not say to injure the dog by kneeing it's chest, I said gently push the knee cap on the chest. I am a HUGE animal lover and do not condone violence. However, I have read in many books and online that this is one way to cure the issue.

Humping is not sexual for dogs and natural. The dog is showing dominance (in its mind) over dog, people or object.

Depending on what is hump is important - some correction may be needed, but knowing the reason may help. Hold her down and show who is the boss.

When she humps, just stay still, completely still, say No, keep your arms close to you, and turn your back to her and go away. Don't push her, shout etc., because then she thinks this is a funny game. She must realise she will not be rewarded with "fun" when she does this. Also, you need to establish that you are alpha. She needs training, but find a responsible dog behaviourist to help you train her, don't use violent methods on her.

You are the only other person I know that has a female dog that does this. Our lab always takes the pillows off the couch and humps them. Now, she usually just does it when no one is around, but she used to do it all the time. She's 6 now, so maybe she just slowed down after she got older. I wish I could give you better advice than that, but I don't know any.

In response to people saying to get her fixed. That's fine, unless your dog is a hunting dog. I tried to get my husband to get our dog fixed (not knowing much about hunting, while he is an avid hunter), and he said that's why he wouldn't do it. Female dogs can get lazy after they get fixed and lose their "get up and go", making them less of a hunting dog.

I have been told that female dog humping is a domination thing. You need to establish yourself as the pack leader. Check out the dog whisperer.
If you get the dog fixed it will make her feel better.

Well you and your family could carry around a spray bottle with water in it and spray her when ever she humps y'all. This will stop her from humping.

She thinks that she is dominating your family. A rolled up newspaper and a sharp "NO" will get her attention. You could also try aversion therapy with a water gun or a compressed air can. Just don't spray the dog right in the face with the compressed air.
