best in the sense that it is easy on the pocket and tastes better.

The differences are mainly due to the ingredients used. The big difference is between lagers and ales. Lager is fermented using bottom fermenting yeast at cold temperatures while ale uses top fermenting yeast at relatively higher temps.

As for the best beers, that is up to personal taste. Despite being unfairly maligned, the U.S. has a wide variety of styles and regional favorites. While Germany is famous for it, there are many countries that produce great beers.I personally think the U.S. produces some of the best.

As for the "cheap filler" comment, different brewers use different fermentables to change the taste, not necessarily for cutting corners. Budweiser, for instance, uses rice while others use corn or rye. I don't think they are necessarily bad beers because of it. Their taste and quality are incredibly consistent. And while I love Sam Adams, it is just way too heavy to drink when the temps are hitting 100 degrees. I think the lighter, crisper taste of a very cold Budweiser is a better choice then(For me anyway.)

I think the whole German beer purity law is just a marketing gimmick for German brewers. Some of my favorite beers, like Guinness and Sam Adams Summer ale and Terrapin Rye Pale Ale all break the German purity laws.

Scotland is 1 of the best places for a Real Ale. We call this a beer. We have 36 Breweries each 1 giving out different types of real ale. light beers are just lagers without the calories.

light beer has less of everything in it
lager beer is beer that has fermented cold
stout beer is an ale that is made with roasted barley instead of black patent malt
ale beer is beer that has fermented warm
pale beer is beer that is made from pale malt

America tops the list of countries that make the best beers. Over the past couple of years, the US has topped the charts in regards to most beer producing businesses. The US is leading the way in the microbrewery era. Before the world wars, Americans were drinking good beer; that trend is re-emerging throught the microbrewery industry. The big brands like Budweiser and Coors are losing money because of the microbreweries. The big industries are trying to get laws passed that will require microbrewers to spend more money and eventually go out of business.

Support your local microbrewery.

Lager is brewed with bottom fermenting yeast at cold temperatures/ ale at warmer temperatures with top fermenting yeast. All others are styles that vary by strength/hoppiness/color/roastiness/etc. If you are American the best beer would be an American microbrew - imports are way overpriced most of the time at least if any good.

All beer is made from four basic ingredients, water, hopps, barley and yeast (and cheap fillers for US beers like budweiser). The difference is in the combinations and they type of fermentation.

The only person who can answer which one is best is you. Go to the local micro-brewery and get a sampler tray. That will give you a start on which varieties appeal to your particular tastes.
