For those of you scourging me for "my" cult and "my" ilk-Dave P, jamustrip, Chris, livetotell and others:
What makes you think I am a christian?

Chris- I don't think it is a dirty word. I have just noticed that when I was young, people could say they were christian and it was taken as "Ok, fine." Now I have noticed that when people say that they are met with rolling eyes and an attitude of "Oh, jeez, here we go- you're some kind of raving lunatic bent on having me be 'born again'." I think Allen hit the nail on the head with his analysis.
Peace-out and word-to-your-mother (can you even believe I went "Vanilla Ice" on you?)

Siburd your online name should be "absurd". Now I know why people get that look.

Because there is the fear that a few fundamentalist Christians are trying to take over the country and are trying to convert everybody to their way of thinking.
This is a serious answer - I am not trying to be sarcastic.

Christianity, Islam as well as Hinduism were created as political tools for the elites in those days, thus very political. All share very incredible story about the unseen power to scare the mass. Most leaders must try to impose their beliefs to the brownies everywhere in the world; if they can convert them they can win their lands. Power hunger is pitiful but this makes the world go round. The Buddha had tasted all that before he denounced every worldly thing. He was the first protestant in the world history against cast systems and nationalism,as fighting for land and power always bring tears and sorrow. He said the human university is never bigger than oneself from hair-end to toenails why be busy with someone else' s business.Learning how to tame yourself is so much fun although it may take many life times.
I'm so afraid of you're one world government policy. I hope I die soon enough to have to witness that. In Metta, Pantini

It isn't. This country (and I assume you mean America) is run by christians for christians. If it wasn't, there wouldn't be laws against stem cell research or gay marriage because both of those are totally christian in origin. Pharmacists would be required to dispense legal contraceptives regardless of their beliefs. Christmas would not be a federal holiday. Government groups (including Congress) would not open their meetings with prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance and our money wouldn't mention god. Churches would be taxed just like any non-profit corporation and subject to the same laws as the rest of us. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
The only basis for your question is that some people have actually voiced the idea that it is possible to not be a christian. For some reason just the existence of that idea terrifies you and your fellow cultists.

Any group will be judged by its least worthy elements, whether it's religion, bankers, lawyers, or even the homeless. For that fact, science isn't above ethical scrutiny, either. Ripping off another scientists ideas just to get the research grants, or deliberately falsifying results to get the research money, is just as bad as any televangelist ripping off the congregation.

I was not aware that it was. You people that say we dirtied the word ourselves must not realize that from the beginning of time there have been people calling themselves Christian to gain political and social acceptance. It is those people that make us look bad. Kerry and Edwards have done the most damage recently, walking out of a Catholic church claiming he is Christian, screaming PRO CHOICE makers real beleivers look terrible. Those of us that see the light can see through him, but it confuses most of the world, who are less fortunate to know the truth.

Because Satan really is trying to turn our country to him. As Jay Leno said that with all going on in America today, do you think this really is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?! No. Christians, band together in prayer to silence satan's influence on the people of the world. Just as a side remark atheists? Just because you are non-christian gives YOU the right to put all Christians down with your rude comments? I thought you wanted us to respect each other? I would be ashamed if I knew my son or daughter talked this way to people!

Words go through processes of elevation and degradation in response to usage. Given that of late many people claiming to be "Christian" have been behaving in the most egregiously awful ways, the name of "Christianity" has been sullied. Many people, hearing the word "Christian," for example, reflect upon George W. Bush and his cynical manipulation of people's regligion.

Don't panic. There are still way more Christians than non-Christians in the United States. For now.
But Christianity has been creating a stigma for itself by practicing and advocating intolerance (gays, other faiths, abortion rights, stem cell research) and by trying to legislate its agenda (pledge of allegiance, school prayer, displaying ten commandments, teaching "creation" in schools).
If Christians want to keep their religion relevant and keep it from being hated, they need to start respecting the rights and beliefs of others.

Are you serious? You have an entire political party devoted to Christians. America is by far the most Christian, conservative nation in the Western Hemisphere. So please explain to me how Christian is a dirty word, because I wasn't aware that it was.
