"Nah, it's just making witchcraft and wizardry more acceptable in society. Look at the big picture you n00bs!"

I've never read Harry Potter, so I don't know how they portray witches, but to an atheist, those who practice the Wiccan religion (including "witchcraft") are no more dangerous than Christians are. Actually, most modern forms of the Wiccan religion would be preferable to me over Christianity, Judaism, or Islam.

"Do not refer to anything beside WITCHES OR MAGIC. Etc, robot, superheroes...This is about Harry Potter!"

It is a valid analogy to say that dressing as a robot or superhero does not make one so, just as dressing in a witch hat does not make one a witch. The point is that just because they dress as a witch does not mean they believe in Witchcraft.

"You must not be a very good atheist are you?"

Atheism only requires that one does not believe in a deity. That is it. You could dress like Jesus and read the Bible everyday, but if you don't believe in God, you are still an atheist.

You're really obsessed with this. Look at the big picture??? Harry Potter doesn't make it more acceptable (because the magic that is displayed in those books is NOT what we do). The Constitution allows us these freedoms. Now, you can not accept it in your own house, but as far as society is concerned, they can make up their own minds...

And, if you could actually look at the big picture... you would know there are atheists out there who are witches. They believe in magic as a natural energy (which is exactly how it is explained in many of the Pagan paths) and yet not believe in any deities.

The BIG picture is.... The Constitution of the US allows us those freedoms. Now, you could try to take those freedoms... but then, you'll have to worry about who's going to take it from you. Think about this... if images of witchcraft were illegal... HALF of the Bible, if not more, would have to stripped out because it shows "witchcraft" - of course, those who follow the Bible will simply call them "Miracles" and hope that people will not see just how similar the two really are. Such as Balaam's talking ***..... Or Moses and Aaron throwing down sticks which turn into snakes, just like the Egyptian Sorcerers did... turning water into wine... walking on water.... I believe there's a part in there which states that Jesus had dug in the dirt and then wiped it across someone's eyes to heal his blindness..... Talking in tongues (which could very easily come across as possession)... Faith Healers, etc... What deity you ascribe these things to doesn't matter, according to your own statements concerning Harry Potter yet not pointing out just how entrenched these ideas already are in our society.

Last I checked, atheists did not dress up as witches.... actually last I checked most actual witches do not dress up like what people see as being steriotypical witches.

And, just so you know, Harry Potter is FICTION! Its not real, and does not have anything real in it about witchcraft, magick, or anything else. It is purely fantasy.

It really isn't promoting witchcraft.

Anyone who isn't suffering from extreme paranoia or has a little bit of common sense can understand that they are just stories invented to entertain small children.

You'll be accusing 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe', 'The Lord of the Rings' etc. of this crime next.

It's only an issue nowadays because idiots have access to other idiots on the internet and are allowing paranoia to spread like this.

because it's fun

not because we believe witches or witchcraft are real

We can read a fantasy novel and know that it's something called fiction (thats a big word for stuff thats made up).

perhaps you should read Harry Potter before posting such unbelievably stupid questions. You make yourself seem like such a moron.

Because they realize it is just a fictional book and are having some fun with it.

You bible thumpers need to realize the same is true of your book! It's just fictional fairy tales and boogeyman stories made up by men to keep scared little children amused, in line, and obeying commands.

Remember, "god" is nothing more than a nonsense word created by man to explain away all of the things we can't yet understand.

Religion is a disease of the mind, born of fear, which has done nothing but bring untold misery down upon the human race.

It's all just fantasy kiddo. If you dress up like a shark do you think your really a shark? No. And who cares if some one wants to be a witch? Sounds like your scared it will work. Jealous of the power maybe?

Easy, maybe they are witches. Atheist means lack of belief in gods. Nothing more.

I bet you have a hard time on Halloween, don't you?

What's wrong with witchcraft? I've never had a problem with it. What's it ever done to you?

Choosing to dress like a fictional character doesn't express a belief.

If I dress like superman, it doesn't mean that I believe in superheros.
