I was researching the different rates that I'd like to have for joining the Navy and CTN looked interesting. However, I cannot find any information about it. Can anyone give me info? Also, is it available to everyone now or do you still have to be a CT first?

I've seen that website. That's where I found out about it in the first place. It doesn't tell me much. When I looked up when CTN was established it said Feb. of 2004. What does this mean?

Conversion is still limited to personnel already designated as cryptologic technicians. Those not selected this year may re-apply for the FY-05 board, which will convene in April. A third CTN selection board will be held sometime in FY-06. After that, the community will be manned through accessions and the normal lateral conversion process.

Does that mean it's now open?

CTN is a new rating, and yes, it just recently opened up to first term enlistees. However it is NOT available to 'everyone' you must have the right Line scores as well as be eligible for a Clearance. I don't remember if normal color vision was also a requirement.

It is a 'Secret Squirrel' Rating, and as such is Classified. there IS no publicly available information about it.

about.com is the best place to get information at this time, sicne you do not have access to BUPERS. Also try the Navy Intelligence Forums on Military.com

Try this website. It lists the Rating, general information, duties, working environment, advancement trends, etc.

Unfortunately, CTN doesn't have alot of that info because it's a new rating for the 21st century. It just opened up in February.

Hope this helps.

your not going to get a lot of info on CT ratings...pretty much everything they do is classified so be ready for an extensive back ground check if that's what you choose to do...looks to me like CTN is reserved for those already in the CT rating...they'll offer it to more experienced sailors first
