Thanks to all who respond. I ask this question not as a test to my own beliefs, or to change others, but as a way for me to learn more of others beliefs and ideolgies. And maybe to get others to think, too. I am not writing a book , paper, or article. I will use the information for me...as I live from day to day meeting different people with different ways of thinking.

Salvation (going to heaven) comes by faith.

""For by grace your have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God not as a result of works so that no one may boast" Ephesians 2:8-9

The only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. Here is what the Bible says:

We all sin

Sin is what separates us from God

Jesus shed His precious blood to pay the penalty for sin

The way to be reconciled to God is believing in and following Jesus and repenting of sin. That is how you "get to heaven". This is not just a one time "get out of hell" prayer, it is a life changing decision to follow Jesus Christ.

I don't know much about life after death(as no one I knew came back to tell me) but I just leave this till the time comes I suppose. But what is certain is that heaven in my culture is defined as reward or result and of course of your very own deed or merits. No one can do merits in your place. In other words if I'm aiming a reward I'll start warming up,practicing or building all causes conducive to that: if I look for self liberation I'd start doing away with attachments bit by bit, if I look forward to hearing only good things I'd start controlling my sharp toungue.....etc.
It's fun to observe the result, until you'll be confident that practicing any cause and it will take care of its own effect...then you needn't worry about heaven before or after death any more. Start living a better life now,be happy. In Metta, Pantini

There is existence after death. Can a babe in the womb comprehend the life outside of it? No...and rarely can someone in human form understand the next dimension.

"ponders upon the writings of Peter and our Lord’s visit to the spirit world; He sees the righteous dead assembled in paradise and Christ’s ministry among them; How the preaching of the gospel was organized among the spirits; sees Adam, Eve, and many of the holy prophets in the spirit world who considered their spirit state before their resurrection as a bondage; The righteous dead of this day continue their labors in the world of spirits." I think that "life after death" is a comforting illusion we have cooked up to ease our egos. We'd like to be something other than very fortunate primates.

I don't believe that there is a "Heaven," and that is part of the comforting illusion referred to above.

Since there is no Heaven, there is no "how" to get there.

well, i don't believe in heaven or hell, both were made up to scare people into giving the church money. but, when i do, i hope that whatever indestructible energy is left from my life continues bouncing around with other atomic matter in whatever form it wants to. what difference would it make to me when i'm dead? i'm not concerned with final judgment since i don't believe in it. when i die, i die, there's no reason for me to continue to exist in some other 'realm'. i want my life to end and be done with.
