The other day a cracker fell out from under his wing. Here is a video him putting food on his head. Any idea why he started doing this.

Lol, that's so cute. XD

The way you describe it reminds me of the nest collecting habits of some species of birds.

He looks more like he is doing it for the attention, or just gets a kick out of it. Strange bird. :)

I also have a cockatoo and I don't think it's cute or that he is trying to get attention when he does this. Mine started off doing the same thing with the food on the head and for the past 2 years he also tries to put it under his wings. He wastes more food than he actually eats. It's OCD at this point. I'm not sure why he does it. He is not stressed out that I know of and he is very well taken of and my only thought to take care of this would be to try to mate him. He may be lonely but he is still a baby himself. He is almost 3 and he was left in his cage for about 9 months before I got him at the pet store. He does a lot of repeat motions and I think it's an illness in his brain but don't know how to stop it but it started with the food on the head and has only gotten worse over time. Any useful ideas?

LOL That was great!!

He is doing the food on the head things because it gets him lots of attention!! He is entertaining you!

See the fuzzy cheek feathers? He is a happy birdie!

The cracker under the wing might be nest but is probably more entertainment.

When his beloved people react to things they will do them again and again and again especially if you keep reacting.

Harness this and train him to "get dresses" give him a few treats and then give him a doll hat (maybe one with a string to help hold it on but never leave him alone with that) and encourage him to put it on. He should actually accomplish it himself! Then move onto a vest like thing.

Play with this bird!! He loves it and has tons of potential!

He's just having a little fun. You're encouraging the behavior by continuously going on with the act. He understands that you like to see him do this, this pleases him very much that he wants to do it for you!
Parrots are very social animals and since they cannot speak the human language they respond to your facial features and body language. He knows you enjoy playing with him and he enjoys you just the same!
What love you two must have for each other!
