It's easy to get carried away being rational.

Great Question NH.
I think this one confuses Christians all the time.
For me, it is the knowledge that I can rely on truth and tangible evidence for belief, and no longer have to try and interpret the bible when theologians can't even agree on it.
I am not always wondering why God doesn't communicate with me personally, and wondering what I am doing wrong to make him avoid me even while I was striving for contact.
Also there is tremendous freedom in the knowledge that a deity isn't willing to torture my kids, parents and friends just for choosing a different religion.
That freedom and knowledge helps me understand the responsibility of this one shot at life we have, and I feel obligated to my kids and eventually, grandkids to help others out of the destructive nature of religious belief, so that hopefully one day, humans won't argue and kill each other over mythology and belief.

Good question... (I was told yesterday that you ask some good questions and it looks like I was told right)
I am surprisingly enthused about my beliefs (or lack thereof as some may say) as an atheist. Most of this is because of current issues such as legalizing gay marriage. I feel very passionate that religious beliefs should not be legislated.

I don't feel particularly enthusiastic about my lack of belief, however I do feel it is urgent that we end the special exemption from criticism religion seems to enjoy.

Piece of mind. I don't spend time in the mental gymnastics of how an all-knowing, all-powerful, all-merciful God doesn't prevent the Asian Tsunami but according to a little old lady God was responsible for her winning $200 on a lottery ticket.

We feel confident in our idea that there is no God, just as theists feel confident that there is a God or Gods. We see it as a liberating affect on life, not because it allows us to do whatever we want without repercussion, as morality does not come from faith but from the stewardship of one's parents and moral influences growing up.

being an atheist is very empowering. Finally i can stop questioning and questioning what has never made sense, I can choose what makes sense to me and make my own destiny. Very empowering stuff plus the freedom from fear and guilt is great
I equate it with dating the non-commitment guys where i feel i can't do anything right and i have to pretend to be someone else for him to like me vs now dating the perfect guy where i can't do anything wrong, we communicate honestly ( as an atheist with myself and others) and i can now be free to be myself and be loved for who i am

I must admit that I like feeling like I'm right and having the evidence on my side. It's gives me a similar feeling to when I'm playing basketball and bury a jump shot right in the defender's face.

I say that it's the intellectual freedom from "spiritual blinders". The mental gymnastics of trying to rationalize all those contradictions and conflicting messages was giving me a headache.
Ironic the quote "I was blind but now I see" is more true now than then.

Enthusiastic? I don't feel that about my atheism. I don't feel weary about it, either.
It's just what I am, sort of like I am a black-haired male. I don't feel enthusiastic about having black hair or being a male. I am what I am.
