I survived the ICU, but I'm still an atheist.

No I don't believe that there is a god who listens to prays. Praying just make the person doing it feel better. Many years ago I was laying on a mountain side bleeding to death. I lost so much blood I could not feel my hands. I did not pray. I organised the two people with me to administer first aid and get help. I survived but only just not by a any miracle but by my own efforts.
Sorry about your brother I hope he fully recovers but I have to say " Some die and some survive" no miracle just the luck of the draw and persons fighting spirit.

I certainly believe in the power of love and the strength of the human spirit.
My father had a car crash a few years ago, a farm vechile over turned and he was drowned in 5 ton of silage. It took 2 hours to for local voluteers, with their own hands, and the emergency services to dig and cut him out of the wreckage.
Despite a lift in the air ambulance he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. A policeman was sent by bike to my mothers house and informed her of the news. 5 mins later he was back to say my father had started breathing again! Bless him, I think the poor policeman was mortified.
Dad survived with 2 broken legs, broken ribs and 2 broken arms, I saw the car after it was squashed flat.
The incident was reported in the Daily Telegraph.
I think the power of the human spirit is extraordinary sometimes, if several are linked together and willing for the same things maybe something higher does give it that extra power or charge. I know he owes his life to the local people who help shift the silage and the air ambulance crew.
I'm glad to hear your brothers getting there. Have you ever considered you might have healing powers yourself, albeit given from a divine source.

Answered prayer is awesome and should keep us humble because God is not obliged to help any of us - even those who worship him are only doing what they ought to do. The Bible makes clear there are no bonus points for doing the right thing! But, 'God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right' (Acts 10:34-35). I note Muslim comments are more gracious than some Christian ones in this respect. Thank you, Muslims!
Sometimes God's answer to a prayer is, 'No.' That is still an answer to prayer. And only if we are prepared to BE the answer to our own prayers will God get the glory. If your dear brother requires special nursing care after discharge, reflect well on your plea that his life be saved, and be willing to do all that is required to help him thereafter. That way, God gets all the glory. But it's not QUANTITY of prayers that God hears; it's quality! One prayer full of faith beats thousands of repetitious mantras! Be blessed.

Of course it was a miracle! God gives those everyday... My husbands sister has spinabifida... she wasn't suppose to see any of her birthdays because she was so sick and ill... She is now 14 years old and if she's sick it's from a cold... God has healed many things in her body the last 14 years... God did bless some doctors with knowledge, but somethings even the doctors couldn't explain!!! Praise Jesus!

You poor creature!
You prayed for a couple of miracles and they came about and that proves there`s a god does it?
That`s how religion started!
What would be your decision if none of the requests came about? Would you say `That was god`s will,` or `there cannot be a god!`
I can predict what you would NOT say, and that is: "There is no god otherwise he would have answered my prayers."
Talk about brainwash!!
Don`t bother to answer, I know what you would say.
Now go and bore everyone about your `miracles` that didn`t happen, spread the `good` word, and net in a few more vulnerable people like yourself.

God does listen & answer sincere prayers!. I havent been in a really serious situation like your brother was in but ive had my prayers answered in lots of other areas within my life. Allot of people beg God for help then when he does how quickly do they forget!. With God being in a persons life there is always hope but he must be believed in when things go good & bad you cannot only believe in God when you need help & expect miracles. God test us & even if things go wrong you can't turn against him & say God didn't help me you must persearve with the belief.

Praise God! What a wonderful testimony to share with us - you've just made my day.
I had occasion to send up a prayer arrow when my husband was in a life or death situation - I also got hold of every Christian I knew and got them to pray as well. Outcome - God intervened and my husband was so overwhelmed, he finally got off the fence and became a Christian.
And then there were they prayers my sister made for me for 10 years when I was lost in a spiritual wilderness. God answered those prayers and brought me to saving grace. Thank you, Lord.

God is good. He does answer our prayers, when we are sincere.
I have been on the receiving end, when several times my life was at risk, and many people prayed for me.
Some people pray for the material things in life,
and when their prayers are not answered ,say that God does not exist.
My grandmother had a wonderful saying.
Be careful what you pray for, you might get what you deserve!

Yes I believe God hears me, He also knows what I want before I ask. Praying, however isn't just about asking for things. God wants us to communicate with Him, praying is like a mobile phone, it's our way of speaking to God.
God must have a plan for you, your brother and sister and that is why He has kept them here for a while longer to fulfill a purpose. How great is our God!
