I am going through this right now... I have cut their juice further and further... we never have given straight juice but it has been more and more water and less juice. It is working!

Set a time for them to have juice. Let's say they can have a cup of juice with dinner or with an afternoon snack. If you just give them water then they don't have much choice. My kids have their milk in the morning and water the rest of the day. They never cared for juice.

Well them seeing you drink it always helps. There is also water that has flavor to it without adding anything other than taste to it. You can also offer them those smaller kid sized bottles some kids find that cool! Just make it fun and make sure they see mom drinking it too. If they still don't really care for it you could always water down their juice, that way they are getting what they want without knowing they are drinking water at the same time. Good Luck!

please don't put sugar in water! you are defeating your real goal which is for him/her to be healthier. What i recommend, is to bargain with your child. That is what I do. I have a 3 year old, and when she asks for juice or milk, I tell her that she has to drink a little water first, then she can have her juice or milk. If she wont drink the water, I just wont give her anything. She usually agrees and drinks the water in order to have her wish. Good luck

I always give my son water in a water bottle from the store. He likes the ones with the pop up top. For some reason he thinks it is a kind of treat. He drinks so much more water this way. I also give him water in coffee mugs with tops like I use. It makes him feel special and included. Good Luck!

I would recommend using a "special" cup for water or a squeeze bottle.
Also, if you make them desperate enough, they will drink the water.
At least you are not giving them soda and they ARE drinking milk. Some parents constantly give juice and some soda and hardly ever milk or water. Also, try to buy them juices that have vitamins and minerals, sometimes those cheap apple juices have no nutritional value. I give my son the Adam & Eve mini juice boxes and he is only allowed 1 a day (if that).

try flavored water with no sugar or calories. Worked for my nice got strawberry water and put red foodcoloring in it. She never even knew. And she loves the stuff. Seriously she always asks for the strawberry juice. Who would have though flavored water and foodcoloring would get kids to drink water. she is 3 just to give you an age!

For the love of God take charge and tell them that they have to drink the water. Let them know that juice and milk are for breakfast only. But most of all you are the adult and what you say go's.

We have given our girls sips from our own drink, or have given them bottled water (those really small bottles) about half full. For one we went out an bought a Princess plastic cup and made a big deal out of how special it was and how it was a cup for water. It seemed to work pretty well. Good luck!

Make it fun for them. If they seem to like they bottles that you get at the store then just put some water in those. You could put ice cubes in them. My daughter would drink water all the time for me IF I put ice cubes in the water. You could also try making some juice ice cubes.

Try watering them down. When I drink fruit juice I add more water than juice.
