Pryor's great chin and relentless non stop pressure would spell trouble for Chavez. When Chavez hits him the first time with a good solid shot and realizes Pryor isn't going anywhere the fight would be over. Pryor by TKO in the later rounds. Too much pressure for Chavez.

Good matchup. The problem for Pryor would have been Chavez was an excellent boxer with good stamina & a good chin. The problem for Chavez would have been Pryor would have just kept coming & coming like he did against Alexis Arguello.
I'm not a fan of Chavez but I would say his boxing skill would make him win this matchup. Pryor wouldn't have beaten outstanding boxers in their primes. Pryor beat Alexis Arguello twice but who else?
Pryor career ended at 39-1, while Chavez was 107-6-2. 100 wins is unheard of in this time of boxing. He was 89-0-1 before he lost a fight & was 87-0 before the draw to Pernell Whitaker. People that gave Chavez trouble were good slick boxers like Pernell, Meldrick Taylor & Frankie Randall.

Aaron Pryor fought every one of his fights like he was Duran in Montreal against Leonard, non stop aggression and constant pressure. Aaron's style worked against slick boxers, he cut off the ring and forced them to fight. Chavez wasn't a runner, it wouldn't have worked against Julio. Chavez almost never took a backwards step. This one would have been an intense, violent collision in the middle of the ring like two lions trying to both go in for the kill against each other. Pryor had a chin like Ail and could take a shot better then just about anyone. He would have taken a lot of them against Chavez.
Chavez by KO inside of 4 rounds.

Stonewall and Elmer have stated what beat Arguello. In both fights take note of Pryor's eyes. Arguello was in against a juiced up guy. Chavez would legally beat Pryor skill wise. Pryor juiced up walks through Chavez.

Pryor because he could box from the outside as well as in. Pryor would be able to outbox Chavez similar to Taylor only Pryor hit with much more authority. Chavez would be KO'd in 11.

Something I'll never stop mentioning: Pryor was an average fighter if you could keep him off the cocaine and between-round stimulants. Chavez wins by KO in an attrition battle.

I thought Julio Cesar Chavez was a good fighter but he lost his first fight to Juan Laporte a very good boxer puncher at junior lightweight and he definitely lost to Pernell Whitaker.
Pryor would have done the job. No mountain was to tall, no ocean to far that he couldn't overcome. Look for lots of courage in this classic match up of wills.

not sure, it definitely would of been a battle of wills .would go with pryor because he was faster and may even of hit harder than chavez, with both mens punishing styles cant see it going 15. pryor took tremendous shots from arguello and seemed hardly fazed ,based on that i say pryor.

I just don't see anyone beating 'The Hawk' at 140 - especially with the extra help from Panama Lewis.
