Example, Brittney Spears, Robby Williams, Elvis Presley (before he died), etc? I've always noticed that. A lot of famous people start out very good, but then eventually turn to things like bing-drinking and drugs. Sometimes, as we've all seen, they even turn crazy & need help.

Why does this happen to them? How do they become so badly stressed? Is it the fame that does it?

Thank you for your answers. I guess I can understand how they must feel since I used to be into the acting thing too and performed for many people. But after a while, I just craved for my freedom and leisure-time again, so I gave it up, LOL!

I believe that there are a few factors that contribute to this.

To start with, even though human beings are very social creatures according to psychologists and social anthropologists, we all need our alone times and our private times as well. When somebody becomes famous, their fans and wanna-be boyfriend/girlfriends want to know everything about them. Frequently this desire to get closer cause people to lose basic respect and they invade the privacy of the celebrity.

The paparazzi scum are among the biggest offenders, if not the biggest offenders, because they get paid for selling their photos to the press and tabloids and the juicier the photo, the more money they make. As a result, many (if not most) paparazzi scum have sold their soul to the devil and chose to make money at any cost over basic respect of their fellow human beings. Most of them hope to catch the celebrity in a compromising situation so they can make a lot of money without any regard to the feelings and consequences that the celebrity might go through as a result of the photos.

One of the big consequences of this invasion of privacy is that it puts immense pressure on these celebrities. Some of these celebrities are able to surround themselves with people who can calm them and help them through the rough times. Others do not have this luxury and, with enough stress, they turn to the friends that they do have who may not be the best influences. If their friends are heavy partiers and their friends are into drugs, chances are good that they will be influenced by their friends. Since they have little to no privacy, the paparazzi scum will proudly sleaze their way into photo-ops whether it is in public or on private property. It is important to know that most paparazzi scum only want the big pay check. They don’t care who gets hurt by their photos and they don’t want your respect. The paparazzi scum only want the big paycheck.

On top of that pressure, they also have the pressure of autograph hounds who have no problem approaching them at their dinner table in a restaurant because they seem to believe at all celebrities desire to be interrupted for autographs or photos when they are trying to eat a peaceful meal.

Then there are all the publicity requirements. If an actor or actress has a new movie or a singer has a new song coming out, they have to do the publicity tours which can also be time consuming.

Then there are the reviews. While it is true that celebrities frequently get praised for their talents, it is also true that they get panned for them, too. There are some people who are very harsh (and unfairly harsh) in there critiques and reviews of a celebrity and this can hurt their feelings. Even celebrities have feelings and they can be as fragile as anybody else. For the relatively unknown, the critiques and rumors are generally fairly quite and fairly minor. Once you are a celebrity, the critiques, rumors and stories come at you from all directions and it can be overwhelming.

You also have to understand that we now live in the “AGE OF INSTANT COMMUNICATION”. With the popularity of the internet and the fact that most countries can get instant access to any big news story via television, radio and/or internet, any negative stories become much bigger than they might actually be. Imagine if you felt that the entire world was laughing at you and putting you down. That’s a lot of pressure!

And finally, you have celebrity peer pressure. There are many celebrities who attend parties which might feature heavy drug and alcohol use. For a young celebrity to feel like they fit in, they might be inclined to partake of the drugs and/or alcohol. This, of course, can be the start of the addictions.

As you can see, it is a deep issue. I think that it would be very wise if the talent agencies who act as agents for these celebrities took the time to coach their stars and help them through the rough times.

Just my 2 cents.

You would think that famous people are happy, but they are insecure and afraid their fame and fortune will vanish. They are never sure that anyone likes them for themselves, but for their fame and money. They no longer have any privacy, they can not go to the store without being followed and harassed. Most are not mature when they become famous and have no idea how to control their lives.

Money and fame are evil addictions.
The Money drives them to push for more.
The fame drives them to exhaustion.
Which drives them to drug and alcohol abuse.
(Pills to pick you up and alcohol to bring you down.)
