Hi
Water retention has a few causes-and its a pain to deal with but its great that you are taking care of yourself & getting into shape! Stick with it!
Try to avoid salt, caffeine , all soda , high fructose corn syrup and ALL artificial sweeteners. They will cause your body to retain excess water/weight/toxins. Drink water regularly through the day to keep the body flushed-and a little trick is the squeeze a bit of lime in the water-lime will do two things: detoxify the body and help get rid of excess water & it will also alkalize and protect the body so that you remain healthy.
You might consider the fact that it is not only water retention but your body trying to rid itself of toxins since you are now exercising and changing your habits. Look at the foods you are eating -are there a lot of easy to prepare foods in your diet? (Such as mac n cheese or Rice a Roni etc...)eat as many fresh foods as possible-there is a lot of chemicals and way too much sodium in these quick-easy kinds of boxed foods-eliminate them as much as possible as well as lunch meats-they are very hard for your body to digest and you will retain water/toxins with these as well. read labels and try to eliminate from the diet those with long chemical names! They will only age the body and make it retain water and all the things it does not need. There is no nutritional value of these "foods" so go fresh as much as possible!
reducing the amount of white breads and pastas helps too. These just kind of sit in the body, absorb moisture, use up your energy and take days to break down-Yuck!
If you like to eat yogurt, this helps eliminate not only excess water, but also excess food your body cannot digest. You just need a small container daily-or you can try a Tablespoon of honey in some brewed warm tea too. This will have the same effect.
Be sure you are eating properly and taking vitamins if you need to. (eating properly is preferred over just popping a vitamin pill-the vitamin will not help if you are not eating well already.) As you are exercising & release excess water from the body you also lose minerals that help your body function & repair itself. You want to keep it balanced as you do this.
I hope this was a help to you. I wish you Health and Good Luck!
