We are having a wedding. We want to order ivory linens for the table tops. Does it usually cost extra to have them touch the floor? I'm afraid the caterers are trying to nickel and dime us.

Hi,.

I rent a lot of linens for a big wedding caterer.

Does it usually cost extra to have floor-length linens? Depends on the level of catering.

For higher-end full-service caterers (say 55.00 and up per person), a floor-length linen is the starting point...and you can upgrade from there to textured "specialty" linens or sheer overlays.

For more economical caterers, it's common to use shorter linens to control costs.

It absolutely costs us more to rent longer linens, so it's fair that they are charging more for a floor-length linen than a shorter linen. Also, it definitely sounds like your caterer is RENTING the linens, which is very good news. Caterers that use their own linens can be trouble. Almost no caterer will invest the big bucks it takes to properly launder and press linens. So, rented linens are what you want. So this is good news for you!

With my rental company, a floor-length linen for a 60" round guest table is 11.50 each PLUS a 85.00 "anytime" delivery fee, my cost, which we mark up (of course). A shorter linen is 8.50 or 10.50 or so...depending on the size. If you're able to pay the extra 1.00 or 2.00 per linen, definitely do it...the room will look MUCH better. I'm super budget-conscious, but you've got to hide table legs. It's important for a nice, clean look. =)

Good luck!

Full length, colors all costs a lot more. Here i can rent white or Ivory half drop "Economy linens" for $2.30 for round or banquet tables. The same linens from a party rental place are $7.00. From the linen company they are $8.00 because they don't want to hassle with Small accounts. Mind you these are the same linens from the same source. Full drop is often 7 x as much. Or you can rent two economy ones for a similar effect. But do try it out first to be sure you are happy with the effect. Your caterer may also tack on fees for handling the linens which drives the price up. Try looking on line , be sure to consider shipping.

The larger linens do cost more, but honestly I've been to many weddings and I have never noticed whether the linens touched the floor or not. It's up to you on how important the aestetic aspects are, but I really don't think anyone is going to have a fit if you don't have the floor length linens.

Good luck!

The cost of renting linens is based on the SIZE. So, if you are getting a larger size, then yes, they would cost extra. You can also look into renting from the party rental companies.....you know ...the ones that rent the party tents? They almost always rent linens as well.

Congrats. on your wedding! Yes, unfortunately most of the vendors will charge extra for floor length linens. Please pay the extra and get these, it looks so much better especially for your special day. Linens that do not drape all the way to the floor are fine for conferences and such but do not look as elegant. Try other outside rental agencies for a better price.

I think it depends on your caterer! You could always rent them from elsewhere or get price quotes and bring it up to your caterer that you are going to rent your own because they are X amount cheapier!! Your caterer may go down on the price in this situtation due to the fact they want that money in thier pockets not someone elses!!GOOD LUCK!!
