I was in the Royal Engineers in 2003 in Iraq. My Sqn was attached to the 14th Marine Expeditionary Unit. We Helped them cross the border before the attacked Um Khazar. I seen then attack the trenches opposing the border, when they got contacted by pockets of resistance Mainly small arms and machine guns. Our arty opened up again to weed out the defenders, but to the Yanks surprise they were also in the firing line. To my surprise no one was injured, only a few company's of tired infantry that had to run back 500m, in full NBC kit back to the start line. I think one of there open back trucks was damaged, it was left on the battlefield abandoned..

There would be an investigation as to the reason and then compensation of some sort would be required of the British government. Americans have accidentally bombed their own troops, however, the only thing that takes place is an investigation after the fact. Compensation? There is none.
I believe it is correct to pay out some sort of compensation for the individuals and equipment lost.
Or were you trying get a more cynical response?

The exact same thing that will happen from this.
A board of Inquiry, an investigation, a pilot grounded, some careers ended, some children without a father, some wives without husbands, and diplomatic traffic both ways.
Also the left will scream and whine, the right will try to say these things happen, and all of you will forget about the victims to use this as yet another part to advance an agenda.
You do these 3 soldiers a disservice.
Let the thumbs down roll in.

The same thing if we did. A investigation into the facts made followed by a board of inquiry. Pilot would ride a desk till a judgement was made. Dead get burried, Injured treated & all honored for their service. If some gulit is found? Most likely, the pilots career is over.

Were it a true accident (and not some passive/aggressive payback), it would be treated much the same. The only difference is the U.S. population would not be clamoring to treat the incident as a war crime, unlike the Brits.

Well, the opposite to how they act to bombing us. US Forces have a lot of double standards, once someone commits blue on blue against them they will go crazy, but are all too trigger happy against us. d u m b a m e r i c a n s

There was an old saying during WW2: "When the Germans bomb, the English run. When the English bomb, the Germans run. When the Americans bomb, everyone runs."
That's as true today as it was then!
"Friendly Fire" is a fact of warfare and has occured for many thousands of years (and no amount of new technology will change that), but the fact does remain that most instances today are committed by the Americans. Maybe because that's because there are more of them out there playing at being soldiers, but the fact remains that they still have a "gung ho" attitute and often tend to shoot first and ask questions later! British forces are usually more careful.
