there could be many reasons for her actions...childhood sexual abuse, abuse in general..drugs...just rebelling...something has triggered her behavior..she would benefit from some loving understanding rather than condemnation...try to be loving and sweet...tell and ask her if there is anything you can do to help..show her you care...don't threaten with the hospital anymore, it would be better if she did that on her own

Sounds more like your niece is acting like a spoiled 2 year old by throwing tantrums, which is not a sign of mental illness. I doubt these episodes happen out of the blue, more likely they are triggered by something you've said or done to her. She's 24 she needs to be out on her own and get some independence that she doesn't have living with you. Don't try to have her committed, just have her get a job, move out of your home and start being an adult.

It sounds to me like manic depressive behavior, which can be caused by a lot of factors. Is she bipolar? That is what caused behavior like that in a boyfriend I had back in high school. You may have to have her admitted for her own safety, or the safety of others if she gets violent during her anger fits. I'm sorry, and I hope things work out for your niece. But yes she needs some kind of professional help, or it could get worse.

when u say "violent" what do you mean? towards others, herself, property, etc...? she definately needs professional help, it could be anything from substance abuse to bipolar disorder or just some really severe personal situation . either way, i would do whatever i need to do to get her some help. unfortunately because she is and adult the only way you can MAKE her get help is if she is actually violent towards other people and even then it's up to the police and court system as to whether she will get treatment or just spend a few nights in jail.
good luck with all of this. mental health is definately a disease that has many victims,

my little sister used to act exactly like your niece has been. she used to get very stresed ou and throw fits for hourse. my mom also tried taking her to te hospital but she refused. my mom took her to a therapist and this has helpd a great deal. she also wanted to make sure she neve hurt anyone so she was willing to do so in a way but i dont know if forcefull would work. it might if you take her one day when she is in a good mood and then take her to the hospitol because then she will become upset and tey can see exactly what is wrong with her. this takes time, lots of effort, and patience. i wish you all the luck in the world!

Call a local psychiatrist and tell them what you have said here. They will have ideas of what to do. She needs immediate help as you probably realize. It sounds like bi-polar disorder possibly. If you cannot get any answers from a local psychiatrist, I would DEFINITELY FORCE her in to see a psychiatrist or the hospital. Bi-polar people have a higher rate of suicide and it sounds like she is not doing so well right now.

In Florida we have the Baker act. You can lawfully force someone to be checked by a mental health physician. It could be a sign of drug abuse.

she is 24 and there is not much you can do, unless she is threathening or physically hurting people - she would have to admit herself and most people do not do that.....
sounds like she might have bi-polar disorder
most people diagnosed with this cannot maintain themselves, as it is a mental disease and they are unable to acknowledge it, but with help and a lot of energy, a semi-normal life can be accomplished

If she wont go on her own then you do need to literally force her, even if that means you have to call the authorities for help. She sounds pretty ill.
