This has been asked (in a round about way) before.

Not all Americans do...only the smart @ss ones who know nothing about history or political solutions!

EDIT And it still goes on! So blindly patriotic and believing your own hype (below) apologies to the USA idiots on here - you did help - we are grateful for the loan, especially as we have eventually finished paying it. We are sincerely grateful for the lives, blood and sweat of your Brave Warriors and those of the other nations involved - as is everyone in the world.

It was a World War (nearly every-one was involved in some way) and "The World" won (sic).

Maybe the yay!-yay! USA-ers should think about this....If you didn't eventually chip in....If the Allies had fallen....Where would that have left you? With the USE to deal with - That would be the United States of Europe!

We would not have been speaking German but thanks to Great British diplomacy we would probably had a stronger Europe by now.

I'm with Boy Wonder below!

This answer is out fact not ignorance
The British navy and air force were right on the point of compete destruction by the time the US entered World War 2 and even the US entered World War 2 sent thousands of supplies of food and ammo to England. If the Japanese didn’t bomb pearl harbor the us even tho they were being begged by the British to do so would have not entered the war and England would have fell. Also keep in mind that the Russian military forces were basically only feed by American food supplies like canned meat. Also D-day would not been possible with out American troops planes and battle ships. It is true that America only got into would war two for her own reasons the us still is the primary reason why Europe isn’t a huge nazi regime and Asia isn’t a huge Japanese regime

Many Brits seem to think we should have joined a war in Europe simply because they were in jeopardy.

America didn't have any more reason to join at that point than Britain does joining the war in some Africain nation today.

What you fail to tell people is that regardless of the fact we weren't at war, our Lend-Lease program allowed you to sustain a war that you wouldn't have been able to do because of the lack of natural resources. Not for your lack of fighting spirit I should add.

By staying out of the war that two years we were able to gear up and produce more war material than the world has ever seen before or since. And it wasn't just Britain that we were giving support to; we supplied Britain, France, the Soviet Union, China and many others.

When Japan attacked the US, we were drawn into the world war and Germany declared war on us too. The material supply of arms, tanks, ships, planes, raw materials, food and so much more gave the Allies the upper hand they needed to take the war into Germany and across the Pacific to Japan.

And still Britain thinks we gave too little.

Many think that it would have been Russian rather than German. However, the crucial point is this. If the Brits, together with Commonwealth and Empire allies, hadn't won the battle for Britain in 1940, ( a battle mainly involving air supremacy) there would have been no landing bases for the US to render any assistance to us. We, on our own, won that battle, and we jolly well needed to. Hitler maintained that he would not have attempted an invasion without having first secured air supremacy. Failing that, the loss of life would have been too great. A million has been talked about. It would have been significant anyway, because we would have fought tooth and nail to expel the intruders.

OK !!!
You are right. The US did come into the war a little late. Truth be known it was the Russians who carried most of the fight until 6 June 1944. Up til then most of the engagements that the US was involved in was designed to keep the Russians on the Allies side.

Prior to the US actually sending troops, the US sent War Material and of course Good Old US Dollars. President Roosevelt stripped the US military of most of its war stocks and instead sent it to British and Russian troops.

Hitler sealed his own fate by attacking Russian. Had he not done that then he could have focused all of his Forces towards crossing 22 miles of water. But because Hitler decided to attack Russia he had to change the way the German Military operated. Please do remember that at that time Hitler had already occupied most of Europe thru Blitzkrieg. After he attacked Russia and winter set in the German Military had to change from a Blitzkrieg to a static force.

The Americans get their cockiness from the fact that by 1944 Russia was tired of fighting and could have made their own peace agreement with Germany. Britain was pretty used up and its one true resource was drying up That resource being available soldiers !!! Without American Soldiers carrying the brunt of the fight across Fortress Europe, How would Britain have fared ?? Remember that during this time Britain was on severe rations. America had to import most of Britains food stock, as most available men were already serving. Who was left to grow the crops ?? Who was left to manufacture War Material ??

It is because of what America brought to the table once they became actively engaged that brings them to believe that they are the Saviors of the world.

Now please don't misconstrue that I am saying you should bow down to all Americans fro saving the world. I am not. Russia had to carry the fight alone for too long. America needed to transition from peacetime to wartime. Britain had to suffer the bombings. The outcome was sealed because the Allies stayed the course.

The Americans seem to know little or nothing of their own history.

Back in c1770s a committe met in Philadelphia to decide the issue of which language, English or German, would become the official language of the newly created United States [free at last].

The votes cast for each language were 50/50. The chairman of the meeting, a German, used his casting vote in favour of English.

Could have gone the other way and who knows then who the Yanks would have supported in WW2 - the Krauts! Heil Amerika...etc.

Edit: strange thing the English language. It just will not go away, will it? I mean, back in 1066 England was invaded and conquered by the Normans. They spoke French. One thousand years later, the English language dominates the world of languages and not French. Wonder why?

Don't tell me - it was the Americans who forced everyone to speak a lower version of English because they could not get their heads around 'foreign languages'. Just like the CIA Middle East Desk then at 9/11 - no one spoke Arabic and could not therefore interpret the Arabic equivalent of Tora, Tora, Tora.

Oh yeah! There's a great deal more in America which makes you behave as you do than just the English language.

You even have laws in use in the USA which were put there by an English parliament in the 17th century. Why change a law which protects the rights of a citizen? Yet this is exactly what your Commander in Chief has done. He has removed from American Law the old English Law of Habeas Corpus, which prevented law enforcement officers from holding a citizen illegally. Thus, you can now be imprisoned on no charge, a trumped up charge or just leave you there to rot.

The American people are either alseep or just nuts! Start a Revolution today - claim back your rights, ones given to you by the English, a hundred years before you kicked us out of our colonies. You were treated no differently than we treated ourselves, yet you dismiss us as though we were just chaf at harvest time.

We are the seed of your intent and of your democracy and all that you have and claim to have. Without us, you are nothing.

Any reasonably intelligent being recognizes that the US did not win either WW1 or WW2 all by themselves. But neither did the Brits, nor the French, nor the Russians. And think of all the support we sent before actively joining in the fighting -- the Brits might have been starved into submission if it weren't for all the supplies the US sent over there, as well as all the anti-submarine screening and convoy support we gave.

And now, a counter-question -- Have the Brits won a war in the past century without assistance? WW1, WW2? Anywhere? And don't try and claim that you had no help at all in the Falklands . . . we may not have sent troops, but we provided other material assistance.

I'm getting really tired of arrogant UK children/@$$holes who continue to try to belittle the efforts of the US in the World Wars, and alienate the natural partnership between the US and UK. So get off your freakin' soapbox rant and recognize that without the partnership, the world would be a very different place today.

If that's right, it a scary thought if the America didn't come into the war- we would either still be fighting now or talking German and what would be happening to the Jews? I take the Americans didn't know what was happening in to the Jews or there would be no question of staying out of it until they had a reason to come in.

Sigh....WW2 was seen as an European war and had nothing to do with us so we felt no obligation to join the party. The French...well when they win a conflict on their own let me know…that is within 100 years.
America sent loads of supplies free to Britain to fight the Nazis I love the UK i have lived there shortly and visited many times and yes THEY were very instrument in the victory and there is no way at all that we would of won without them. Eisenhower had to run the D-Day plan by the Queen before it was even approved. The French had a wide intelligence network that served greatly in finding out troop locations which of course help during the war.

Oh and get off your damn high horse Europeans have had MORE then their share of tragedies during history, several attempts to control that which isn’t theirs my country is an example. Yet you all claim to be perfect and instead of doing what you should be doing and accepting that much of this mess in the world you played a part in starting why not try to help Americans understand what to do with wisdom instead you just spit insults like old men. This weekend in Munich i saw a French guy getting pulled out of a beer tent for screaming (F*cking Nazis) ...The Germans are amazing warm and intelligent people and no one deserved this mad ignorance.

Here is a clue man we are ALL selfish bastards.
