you will be required to bring along the direct deposit information..account number and routing number of your bank. if your spouse has access to that account, then you won't have anything to worry about. If you are required to open a new bank account, you can set up an allotment to go from your pay directly to whatever account you wish.
what EVERYBODY does is contact their creditors BEFORE they ship and make arrangements. It can take 4-8 weeks before your first pay ever hits in any event. family separation does not go into affect until day 31, so that won't appear until the second or third pay period anyway.

When i went through boot camp I was given the choice of the military bank or my home town bank. If he speaks up he should be allowed time to send you money. If they are not helping your husband by giving him time you can also send a red cross message saying you need money. In turn this will let his whole chain of command know whats going on. I'm not too sure if he'll get in trouble for that, but you need to pay bills right. To avoid situations like this again I suggest you look into a power of attorney. You can do everything as if he were right next to you. It's helped my wife and I out countless of times. Sorry if this isn't much help.

They will make you sign up for direct deposit for your pay. They don't care what bank you use though, and I don't think they can make you use a certain bank. If your family has access to the account that your pay is going into, it isn't a problem. It is a good idea to get a power of attorney for the spouse and make sure that both names are on the checking account, just to try to prevent any problems before they start.
My mother-in-law paid my husband's bills when he was in basic training. He left her his checkbook and she signed his name to the checks and mailed off his bills. She did the same the first time he was in Iraq, except then she had a POA just in case.

That doesn't sound right. My nephew was in Army boot camp... I think you just have to have a bank account. So if you already have one that your family can access, you should be able to use that one. I don't know who you'd call to find out for sure, sorry! But you're right, the family has to be able to access money somehow.
Update: Did some research and it appears the Corporal was right. Crazy. See website below:

I filled out a form that I had to bring to my bank. The bank filled out the account and routing information and signed it. This was then placed in my folder at MEPS so that my pay would be direct deposited into my regular checking account at home so that my husband could survive. He did the same thing when he went to basic and the money did make it here fine for me to pay the bills.
