"And can it be that I should gain?"
A classic (by Wesley).....and also my favorite
My other favorites:
"Standing on the promises"
"Mansion over the hilltop"
"Because He lives" (Not really a hymn...but a great Gaithers classic)
"I am resolved"
"In the garden"
Edit:
What bothers me is the fact that we could possibly get thumbs-downed for answering a question like this.
So sad......get a life people.
Even better.....get Jesus!

That is a good hymn. I have it in Celtic music style on my computer. I think they only go through four verses though. Anyway, I really don't know if I have a favorite hymn. I find the all old sounding, I wasn't raised in a church, so I am a bit removed from many of the hymns.
One song, I don't know if you would call it a hymn, that I like is "God of Wonders".
SIDEBAR: Aren't the religious Atheists annoying? The first post you got was from a person "shoving their religion down your throat' , saying that "he ain't there" like he was handing out a religious tract. The more they are here, the more like another religion they become!

Praise The Lord!!
Some tremendous hymns getting air time on YA.
"How Great Thou Art" ranks high up there with a few other of my favourites:
And can it be that I should gain
Love devine all loves excelling
Rock of ages
When peace like a river (it is well with my soul)
Amazing grace
Be still my soul The Lord is on thy side
Sadly I have lost 100% of my hearing and cannot sing them as I want too. However they are etched on my heart and I look forward to the day when I can sing them anew in praise to my Saviour in glory!

My favorite hymn is Amazing Grace sang to the music of House Of The Rising Sun. I have got a version now by the 5 Blind Boys of Alabama. They slowed the music to fit the tempo of the original music,, but I have also heard it at a faster tempo and both are awesome.

Oh, there are SOOOOOO many hymns I love, and my church doesn't sing them anymore--just all these new praise choruses (bleah). I love "How Great Thou Art," and "Blessed Assurance," "Just As I Am Without One Plea," "To God Be the Glory," "When I Can Read My Title Clear," and soooo many others. I could just pull out the hymn book and start naming them off.

My favourite is The Old Rugged Cross. I also really like It is Well With My Soul.
How Great Thou Art is good, but tough to sing well without professional training....incredible range.

A great OLD song. Any song which gives God, the creator of ALL things, ALL THE GLORY, is a great song. Too often, man takes glory for the things God has allowed. Romans 1:25, "Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the CREATOR, who is blessed for ever. Amen". Doesn't this describe man today? But God is Love and mercy. There lies our mortal hope; the immortal God!
