My partner and I are finally getting married next year (2008) after being together for 12 and a half years.....we are paying for it ourselves so we only have around £5000-£6000 to spend.....does anyone know of an ideal venue/hotel in Birmingham or surrounding areas where we can have the wedding ceremony and reception, that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg? Any ideas would be very much appreciated, thank you :o)

Congratulations! My sister got married at Hanbury Hall nr Droitwich and had the reception at Stone Manor nr Kidderminster. They are both lovely and costs can be kept low.

Im not really too sure on possible venues but I do know some hint and tricks to keep costs down for the rest of the wedding.
At our wedding, I made all the bouquets from HIGH quality silk flowers. They look the same, don't die after a couple of days and they make a great souvenir of the day for you and your bridesmaids.
Also, for wedding favors, we went to Ikea and bought a couple boxes of champagne flutes and some glass paint and painted the date of the wedding on the foot of the flutes, got some ribbon and tied it around the stem and filled the glasses with little "hugs and kisses" chocolates. On the computer, we made little tags says "hugs and kisses, love Helen and Steve Nov. 6th, 2004", it made it very personal and it also gave them something to eat at the end of the night.
Hope this helps with the costs.

Hi! I got married 2 weeks ago at Moxhull Hall (www.moxhullhall.co.uk). Its not far from the Belfry, and we had everything (ceremony and reception) there including wine, a buffet for 60, bacon sarnies in the evening and all the fees etc for about what you want to spend. The venue is beautiful!! Email me if you want to know anything else!

Hi there!!

I live in Birmingham too, we are doing it in the registry office and then have the reception in a mates pub.

Botanical gardens is nice, but I think they charge per head, THEY had the ceremony and the reception there.

All the best for your big day!
