Without experiencing the love and joy He can bring into your life, to any one's life I can understand why you would question Him and why others would say that He isn't there. After you have had an experience of being close to Him I can't imagine any one n ot pleading with Him to stay with them always and that is what being a Christian is.. Always having Him with them.... Although He is living in His abode, in the spiritual sky in His planet called Goloka Vrindävana, He is everywhere. The example can be used. That sun is ninety millions miles or something like that, away from us. But it rays are spread throughout the universe and within your room also.
