Hi. I recently came down with what I thought was a bad cold, but when it wouldn't go away I called my doctor. My regular doctor wasn't in and I saw another. He neglected to ever tell me what was actually wrong with me, simply wrote me a prescription and shoved me out the door. I was feeling so bad I didn't have to energy to stand up and ask him questions. What he prescribed me is something called Sulfa DS (that's what the Rx bottle says). I've tried looking up the name of this prescription to see what it's for, but so far I can't find it and I'm not sure what other names it might be listed under. So what exactly is Sulfa DS and what is it treating in me?

Sulfa DS is simply an antibiotic for bacterial infections...often used for respiratory or urinary infections. Since you thought you had a cold, your bacterial infection is obviously respiratory.

Make sure you take it exactly as directed and take it until there is none remaining. If you stop it too soon, the bacteria can regrow! Also, if you are not better after taking the medication for a full 3 days, notify the doctor.

The pharmacy should have given you an information sheet if you live in the U.S. This is now standard procedure and that sheet will provide all the information you could want and more. If you have pitched it and need any further information, please don't hesitate to email me.
