Having suffered thru three heart procedures in the span of 18 months and I'm not talking about bypasses. I suffer from an Aortic Dissection which was compounded by an aneurysm. I have had two Aortic grafts performed and a Cardio Conversion( stop your heart and jolt you back) and even my surgeon couldn't believe that I pulled thru. I don't consider myself to be a lucky person but I do believe that the Lord has a plan for me and I give thanks every day.

I used worry about closing my eyes and never opening them again but with the help of friends and prayer I've learned to accept the things that I can control and everything else I give up to the Lord. So to answer your question.....Yes, I thank GOD every day, that I wake up and enjoy.

Most of the time I do or it least I hope I do! Sometimes I'm more enthusiastic about it than others. I thank God for everyday things, such as: air conditioners, my house, clean running water. You get the picture. I don't have much materially, but I'm thankful for what I have. Physically, I have been suffering with breast cancer(mastectomy took care of the cancer) and complications from two recent car wrecks(both wrecks not my fault), but I'm thankful for the health I do have. I'm so thankful for my family and friends. Praise God for my loving animals and the beautiful children that come and visit me. Thanks for the question! I feel so much better just typing out my blessings. Maybe I should do this each day first thing. Praise God from whom all blessings flow! God bless you today and everyday!

That's a good point. I thank God for each meal I get. Yes I eat 3 meals a day and I thank God for each one, even if I am in a restaurant (regular or fast food). Not always were times so good. It's my small way of showing I am not ashamed to believe in God in front of others who might judge or shun me. I don't make a big 'show' of it, I simply bow my head and softly (but with my mouth) thank God in Jesus's name. It's such a habit, that it's weird when I'm with my in-laws and they feel odd about giving thanks at Easter dinner!

You're right, I should also give thanks just for the day itself.

Mojack: So what do you do that is so productive at 6pm that is not wasting your time? Watching your neighbor surely doesn't seem like a productive use of your life- even if you aren't accountable to anyone. (I wonder if that just exploded your atheist psyche)

It's funny that I stummbled across your question because I was just about to post a blog entry about this very thing. I've had the song "More Faithful" by the band Skillet going through my head for the past hour, and it got me to thinking about why we so often feel like we need an "excuse" to thank and praise God.

Check out the song's lyrics at the first link below.

since I don't believe in God, that would be a waste of my time.

I personally know a woman, who goes every day at 6pm to the church to hear the mass and to pray.
It takes one hour.
She is now over 50 years old.
Now do the maths, and see how many hours that woman already wasted.

If there is a god, maybe it was a good investment, but if there is no god, she simply wasted all her time.

That would tantamount to doing it in equated periodic installments [EPIs] which is akin to people paying a fixed monthly sum on a home-loan as equated monthly installments[EMIs,the basic premise being that they pay as they earn.To thank God,we don't have to earn gratitude or thankfulness or what ever, well before we thank Him.Therefore,we can afford to be eternally thankful and grateful to Him for this life, at any time and always.

I don't thank Him each day...I should. I do thank Him for various blessings as they occur and I think He knows that I think its a crime to leave the house without looking at the sky and the earth all around and not acknowledge Him..this earth and sky are so excruciating beautiful...but I should thank Him for the day itself. Thanks for the reminder. Love in Christ, ~J~
