Whenever I do 20 pushups in a row, my face turns red. Is there a way to prevent this and why does this happen?

Stop holding your breath. Inhale when you push up. Exhale when you go down. You should be able to give your D.I. 50 without breaking a sweat or breathing hard.

There is a term called hydrostatic indifference. It means that your blood is not pooling in your legs like you were standing, but distributed around your body. Like you were sleeping. When you are "prone" like in a push up, your blood is probably evenly distributed all over your body. That means your face too. Exercise raises your blood pressure, temporarily and that forces blood to the surface of the skin and that is why we get red when we work out. Yer fine.

You're probably not breathing properly or not breathing at all when you do them. Focus on breathing out during the hardest part of any exercise. Breathe in on the easiest part.

i would think that's unpreventable...
whenever you excercise, your heart beats harder and more blood is circulated to your whole body...
so any excercise you do, if you do it enough, will make your face turn red...
additionally, when you do push ups, the level of your face is at the same level or lower than that of your heart... therefore blood flows to your face much more easier... causing it to turn red...

i'm more interested in knowing why you don't want your face to turn red :-]

You aren't breathing properly, or not at all....Remember, your muscles need oxygen. Exhale on the way up, inhale on the way down.
