had a car accident both have no insurance not my fault?

had a car accident that wasn't my fault, we both don't have insurance so the guy is now trying to get out of it even though i had 2 witnesses. He gave me a new zealand licence is it true that after 3 mths after being in australia if you don't get a qld licence the new zealand licence is void.
