There's a website where for a monthly fee (if I remember is under $20 a month) where it gives specific details about every car by the make model and VIN #. Licensed mechanics by law have to enter their work on each vehicle into a database, most are familiar with this when they have their smog test done. This company also keeps track of past owners through MDV or DMV (depending where you live) and so fluctuating odometer readings, or ones that don't fit the time frame/considerable use, would be suspect. I don't recall the actual site but if you type some of the key words I used here a search "ENGINE" (pun intended) should be able to reach your "MILESTONE" ....heh, sorry for that last one.

There are clues - even if its a new one! Check pedal wear, wear on the drivers seat, marks around door handles. Here in the UK we have MOT tests every 12 months which actually show mileage. Makes it a whole lot easier!
