When giving preoperative instructions/warnings (i.e., "informed consent"), doctors tell patients that the risk of intraoperative death from ALL causes is about 5%. The percentage is higher if there are risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease or respiratory illness.

The chances are very slim. people who die from the operation could be other factor like bleeding or underlying fator or drug allergy reative during intra operation. Personally have not seen one.
