Call up Bob Barker and he could give you a 100% answer to this question. But if you want to take my advice the answer is yes It's the same as women getting a hysterectomy. No more periods and it also has some other benefits to the dog as far as health problems. Read any of these posts for a detailed listing of those possible health concerns, but if it's the bloody carpet you're mainly concerned about then get her fixed and you can throw out that spot remover.

Yes. A Spay is one more name for hysterectomy - in her case entire removal of the uterus and ovaries. No eggs, no uterus - no warmness periods - no domestic dogs. Excellent executed after around 6 months of age - however even older dogs do good.

Yes, it will. I have one female that is spayed and no problems at all. Also, you can buy "diapers" for dogs that will help in the mean time.

Yes and there are higher chances of her living a healthy life, but then again..she won't be able to have puppies and she can get in fections. There is always a negative to a positive hon.

i have a cat who is on heat at the moment and spoke to a educated friend who has two cats and a dog and had other dogs and this was her answer to my same puzzling question.
even when you get them desexed they will still sometimes go through the hormones where they still want the mating but thats it. Its also not as extreme as if they wernt desexed. they find other ways to show there affection than trying to hump your leg.

yes it will. Spaying will also reduce the risk of cancers. Unspayed females are also at high risk of serious uterine infections that are fatal if left untreated!

Absolutely.
Period or 'heat' (in all mammals) is the shedding of the uterine lining.
Spay = hysterectomy (removal of the uterus and ovaries)
No uterus, no uterine lining. No lining, no heat cycles/periods. Or as they say with people: Instant menopause!
