I'm guessing you mean without synthetic thyroxine......

You can go for quite some time with nil or limited thyroxine production.

You will feel pretty lousy, but it won't kill you.

You are at risk of developing a couple of life threatening conditions, but your Dr should be monitoring you for that, and they can be reversed once you start thyroxine treatment.

The good thing is you will feel much better once they can start you on thyroxine!

Do you mean before the radioactive iodine? You can wait a while for that. I was pregnant when I had the surgery and so had to wait 8 months before I could have the radioactive iodine.

The surgery should have gotten the majority of the cancer out, the radioactive iodine is just used to get the little bit that surgery can't find. But thyroid cancer is very slow growing so you could be ok waiting for a while.

Hopefully you can start the thyroid hormone medication though? Otherwise you'll feel pretty bad (tired, weight gain, etc.) until you do. Also the medication helps to keep the cancer from coming back.
