To be honest, as usual, I'm not too fond of it. The only gospel song I ever really liked was "Amazing Grace". I grew up in the 70's listening to rock-and-roll, and, as detestable as it may seem for fellow theists to read this, that is my chosen style of music for myself. I simply love Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Kiss, Aerosmith, Jethro Tull, Yes, The Who, Rush, etc, etc. This is nothing against gospel music, it's just what I like.

I guess I am an oddity. I'm an Atheist but I grew up with that old time gospel music and I very much enjoy it. Vestal Goodman was the greatest of all and there are many others that I sit and listen to in my shop.

I guess I'm the odd one. I can listen to Sunday hymns and praise songs all day long and love it. But to me old time gospel sounds just like a barber shop quartet. I like soloists, but not the harmonies. It actually grates on my nerves. I try to concentrate on the words which are dear to me. My church invites a gospel quartet once a year, and I grin and bear it, everyone else loves it.

I love old bluegrass gospel, most of the time.. the sad stuff kinda brings me down... but most of the newer southern gospel really raises me up.

I enjoy it a lot if it's old enough. The old Kitty Wells, Mother Maybell Carter, Chuckwagon Gang, Louvin Brothers all strike a note with me
