There are two different catagories of melons. Read below;
Melons are sweet edible fruits that belong to the gourd family and are divided into two categories: muskmelon and watermelon. Melons have been enjoyed for thousands of years in many countries and are thought to have originated in Persia.
Muskmelon varieties have either netted skin, like cantaloupes and Christmas melons, or smooth skin, like honeydew and casaba melons. Other muskmelons include Spanish, Persian, winter and Crenshaw varieties. All muskmelons contain seeds and have a hollow center with fibrous material. They vary in color, including shades of yellow, pale green, and orange. One variety or another is available year round, but muskmelons are most plentiful in late summer and early fall.
The melon varieties in the watermelon category generally have less flavor than muskmelons and a watery consistency. These melons contain vitamins A and C and are eaten alone or in fruit dishes or salads. Watermelons are heavier than muskmelons, with an average weight of 15-35 pounds (6.8-15.8 kg), and are native to Africa. Some varieties are much smaller, similar in size to a cantaloupe.
**Personally I prefer Watermelon...YUM!! And the color is gorgeous!!

You can buy many varieties of watermelon.
there are many varieties of melon and different kinds of melon.
Do as I tell you and you will know how to pick out the best watermelon.
There is water witchers who can find water, where water pipes are that no one knows where they are. I am one of these people and I have never failed to find what I am looking for. Metal pipes, corner stakes on properties (metal) plastic P.V.C. pipes or water underground. It doesn't matter if the pipes have water in them or not.
If you want a great watermelon, take a corn broom straw, lay it across the watermelon.(long melons you lay the straw across the narrow part of the middle) the straw will draw itself to the long . The more it is drawn the better the melon.

Melon could be honey dew or cantaloupe. I don't like watermelon I would say it's my second least favorite fruit.

I love love love watermelon! It's so juicy and sweet. Especially when it's homegrown. But if I can't have that, I like honey dew melon.
