Hehe I ask because I live in China, and I came across this dried bean snack mix (black beans, white beans, green beans, among known edible stuff like wolf berries, pumpkin seeds, fried broad beans, and almonds) in a health food store, and I'm unsure whether it's safe to eat the beans in that snack mix. The package advertises "great for health!" but you know how things work in China (they don't.)

i wouldn't say they are unhealthy but i imagine they aren't very tasty. if you try to chew them you are liable to break a tooth.
i would just cook em up for the sake of taste alone

No its not, I know that for a fact. The only problem I can think of right now is that dried beans require about 5 minutes or so of boiling to deactivate lectin phytohaemagglutinin, a toxin that is found in most beans and can cause gastric upsets. May be after boiling your dried beans for a few minutes, it can be safe to eat them. But I reckon the taste is not quite nice. Just cook them, they're more nicer and still nutritious when tender.

you can better health if you cook them. You trying to find something to eat that will take that hunger pang away I gather. You might try seeds. Becareful not to get aneroxic.
Eating dry beans won't hurt you except you might break a tooth or two if you don't at least soften them somehow!

It won't hurt you but you better have strong teeth. The beans won't be in your system long enough to start to swell. Now take bread dough. I heard of a child that ate a pound of bread dough. In the warm moist environment it started to rise. He was rushed to the hospital and had emergency surgery to save his life. This is a example, the moral is be careful
