I was fired from my last job about three months ago, haven't found another one yet. My last boss wasn't exactly the best person to work with. Some of the things he did include:
-Humiliate me in front of the staff and vendors
-Threatened to demote me if I ever called in sick
-Ordered me to violate the company's safety policy (BTW he was also Safety Coordinator)
-Lied to me on a daily basis
-Do random cleanings of my desk, in which he threw out projects I was working on (One of the reasons I was told I was being fired is because projects wern't being finished)
-Refused to listen to me when I told him I was having trouble with some aspects of my job
-Would refuse to answer my questions and when I proceeded to do things on my own, he would tell me I was wrong
-Constantly called me a failure

I see other people say "put a positive twist on your firing", but how can you do that when there is no positive to all of what I just said?

just explain to any new prospects that there was no room for advancement in his company, that is, if it comes up. you may tell them about the abuse but don't go into so much detail as to come off as a whiner or a gossip.

apart from that you are trying to sell a package. that package being yourself. let on that you have learned from the experience and that you are ready to move on with your career and be a positive contributor to their team.
hopefully you do your homework and can tell any prospective employer all about themselves so that they get the idea that you are soooooooooo interested to be their new team mate.

go get'em slugger!...carpe diem

A lot of companies won't even disclose that you were fired when called for a reference check. They will just say you worked there until x date. You don't have to explain it in detail to your prospective employer. Just say that you had some personality conflicts with your manager and you both felt it would be better for you to move on. If you go into more detail they will wonder (as I do) why you put up with all that and didn't quit, and they might view you as a pushover. So make it sound like your leaving was more of a suggestion/agreement than anything.

If your boss was so bad, you should have been looking for another job before you got fired. If your boss is bad, he's still the boss. You sound like you have a lot of excuses. You should have stood up for yourself from the beginning. Now all you can do is say you had personal differences with your boss and say as little as possible. It will be difficult for you to get another job since you have waited so long to apply for another. It means you took all the unemployment you could get and now you've decided to look for another job. You sound like a loser. Stop whining. You never end up where you are because of someone else, you are directly responsible for yourself. You've already gotten the best advice.

The positive twist to this firing is that you got out of the place! The guy sounds like a screwball. You can say something like "My former manager and I seem to have had a personality conflict."

All you can say is that the rules and regulations of the previous organisation were absolutely strict and you wernt able to adjust to them. Dont say anything else. If they still ask you then say that it was a bad experience and it took me way too much time to get over it and I dont want to remember those days again.

Be honest. Say "Last boss was a psycho".
