I hate it that I am lazy with some things ,but flossing is one. I do brush and use mouthwash and somehow I think that is good enough but now they are saying flossing can help you live longer? Do you think this is true?

And are those hand held flossers work just as well? Because I at least used to use that..lol

I just got back fomr the dentist and I swear by the handheld ones.. I love them becasue I can just sit and watch TV and twiddle it through my teeth .. also you don't have to worry about cutting the circulation off of your fingers! BUT the dentist said that they are better than nothing- but it doesn't get beneath the gum line and wrap around the tooth very well.
She also said to use Floride after you brush.. preferably before bed so that it can penetrate your teeth and gums. Mouth wash is great too she said becasue it helps to fight off plaque- which plaque in time turns into tarter.. Tarter is terrible becasue it eats away at your bone and teeth.
"You should floss your teeth at least once a day. Flossing in between your teeth removes food debris and plaque from in between the teeth that a toothbrush can't reach. Plaque causes tooth decay and can lead to gum disease. Another great reason to floss is that recent studies have shown that flossing helps to prevent a heart attack or stroke."

I would agree that flossing will lead to longer life becasue if you have no teeth due to plaque or gum disease- it would be hard to keep an appetite, especially when your food has to be puree!!
Cheers!

I'm addicted to those hand held mini disposable floss picks. I have a bag of 'em at my computer desk at home. I floss like 10 times a day! BTW...they say you live longer because your teeth are an indication of your overall health. When your teeth are trashed, you basically go downhill as well.

I dont usually floss, i just use mouthwash. The past 3 times i have gone to my dentist, the lady who cleans my teeth has not given me that stupid "you need to floss" lecture.
I do floss, just not everyday. as for flossing to help live longer i dont think that is true, it will help your teeth live longer but i dont see how it could effect your entire body.

After undergoing two root canals you better believe I floss! I brush, I floss and I mouthwash with Listerine!
I wouldn't wish a root canal on my worst enemy.

floss baby floss!!!!!!!!!!!!!
or you will get periodontitis which means your gums get infected and start eating away at the bones in your jaw resulting in tooth loss( you cant tell this is happening)
Then you need GUM FLAP SURGERY
where they peel your gums away from your teeth and grind away the infected parts. I am about to under go this procedure and am NOT looking forward to it!

After every meal. I carry some with me when I'm not at home. You'd be amazed what's between your teeth after eating that you can't even see! And that stuff can wreak havoc on your teeth in the long run if you don't get rid of it regularly.
