I was born into a a Catholic home, and went to a convent.
The Mass (at that time, was in Latin), I could not understand a word. The nuns made me so scared of God that I only prayed to Mary. I alswys get the giggles when I am nervous, ever time I HAD to go to confession, which was every Friday, I used to giggle through the whole procedure and spend ages 'saying penance'.
I spent three hours on my knees on Good Friday, or it was a 'mortal sin'. Because I was a bit michievous, the nuns made my school life a misery.Unlike some people, I honestly can't say, I'd love to be back at school. I hated it. I suffered from a terrible rejection problem.
I lived in Europe for 3 years, became an athiest. Yes, I read all the books, Ayan Randd, Velokofsky, you name it. But it did'nt make me any happier inside myself.
Nine years later I lived in Australia, and I met some Born Again Christians. I just KNEW, by watching them and what they had, I desperately needed. Iv'e never looked back.

It really saddens me to read some of the answers. I think you can find the answer in them. I don't believe people have a problem with Jesus Christ, just the church...or rather, the largest representations of the church. There are so many who claim to be christians but are not. Those who do feel that they must convert everyone they meet, when they need not. Those who see themselves above other, when they aren't. They push the law rather than show love. They are the Pharisees of our day. Unfortunately, those are the "christians" the world see more often and more clearly than those who really live a christian life and imitate to their best ability Jesus Christ. Obviously, you've met a few of them and hopefully are one yourself.
My answer is human nature.
God belss.

the problem isn't between the Christian Church and Jesus Christ. remember Christianity begins when Jesus Came and start teaching until He save us from our sins. whether you are a Catholic or a Born Again, you're still a Christian because you believe and follow Jesus.
the problem is between religions. I am also a Catholic and I have know people who belongs from other religion.in fact I am married to a man whose a Born Again and we both respect each other's belief.often times the problem occurs with our religious leaders who dont respect each others belief and teachings.
it is not a secret to everyone that there are some religions that teach about God to earn money from the "offerings."
your experienced from a convent was the same with the stories i've heard from my classmates who have tried studying on a catholic school.
though im a catholic i also have questions with their practice, haven't you noticed if you were confined to a hospital run by catholic priest you will charge high bills and you will not be discharge until you settle your account, if you enroll on a catholic school you will pay very high tuition fee.
i have a professor in college, he said that of the overall offerings from every catholic mass only 20% remain on our country and the rest were send to vatican. and i believe so because there were many poor, sick and illiterate in our country. if they really practice what they preach then poverty wont be that rampant in this country,in this world.
problems occur with the preachers and believers who do not know how to practice their teachings and respect other religions.

I think that each person who does have a problem with it has their own reason. Some people were mistreated by someone who claimed to be a Christian. Some people don't like following rules and they think that there are a lot of rules in the Bible, even though there really aren't. And some people are just going by what they heard and have never read the Bible or even met a Christian.
I think it would help the cause of Jesus a lot if Christians were more kind to everyone. If Christians really lived up to the teachings of Jesus, then most people would not have a negative view of Christianity. If they even lived up to just this verse, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself" it would change the world.

Because many people rather hear the lies than truth.
As the saying goes, the truth hurts. Cop out answer.
Many people dont want to hear what Jesus says because He right on target with what He says and people know Jesus is looking right through them.
Praise the Lord you found the Light and Truth. Yep I agree, we never look back to the old.

Partly because, whoever doesn't follow Jesus will go to hell, the story of Jesus was greatly exaggerated in my opinion, people claim Jesus was the Son of God and that Jesus even had the power to ressurrect people.
Jesus was a good man who preached peace and morality in his life, but in no way was he a higher power, in my opinion.

Why does the Christian Church have a problem with everyone else?
The two faiths namely Islam and Christianity are out to destroy the whole world. And everyone else is getting hurt.
When did Jesus say this?
Why do the christians hate everyone who is not christian?
Lets face it. Islam is stating their main problem is the west and the west is dominated by christianity.
But why are all the others getting hurt in this fight between Islam and christianity and why are christians going around doing the things they do?
Lets be truly honest and face the problem.

i haven't heard of anyone having a problem with Jesus Christ . the problem with the Christian Church is that it is now churches all claiming to be more than the other ;they ripped off the new world;turned a blind eye to the Holocaust ,and are generally intolerant of other teachings and faiths

I don't have a problem with them I am a Christian myself! I love God. But it gets me mad that we are supposed to except the ways of everybody else and everyone hates us. I f somebody says that they are christian and only starts violence and fights and believes in Killing people then they are lying and are not christian they are giving false testimony which is a sin. This is because God is love! In the Bible it talks about murdering homosexuals? where? There was murder in the Old Testament but when God sent his son to die in the cross for us he made it so there is no need for anything like that. You can be a good person and go to hell but that is because you have not excepted God into your heart. God made heaven are you just supposed to reap the benefits because you are good? It's like if you make really good burgers at home that taste just like In-N-Out burgers and you say I cook burgers too why don't I get paid like the employees? It's because you have to work there. You have to except God to get the benefits.

Recall your reasons for deconverting to atheism from Catholicism. What drove you to make that change?
Also, consider that people of all religions and philosophies have varying levels of satisfaction with their lives. Why didn't you consider Islam or Buddhism? What attracted you to fundamentalism?
My problem with any religion, specifically fundamentalism, is that believers view themselves as morally superior to those who do not share their beliefs. Frankly this is bigotry. Worse, they indoctrinate their children with guilt and fear of damnation for not believing.
In America today, evangelical Protestants are on the forefront of outlawing science in the classroom and reinstating public prayer by law. The Catholic Church threatened death to Galileo for his discoveries. I have no doubt many fundamentalists in America today would do the same to suppress ideas they find threatening.
I also object to running our foreign policy based on Biblical prophecy. If fundamentalists here were successful in this, we would be little different than a theocracy like Iran. This scares me.
I believe if it were legal, many of them would torture and kill non believers, as the Catholic Church did centuries ago. I distrust fundamentalism. But if you've found your peace there, then I wish you the best. I hope your faith doesn't delude your reason.

The Christian god is a jealous, demanding, unforgiving, and murderous god, who demanded human sacrifice. He killed all the living things on earth except one breeding pair. How would a kind god create Hell?
