I feed mine pretty much whatever we're eating. No chocolate, avocados, or onions, and I try not to give her to much dairy-I've heard that's bad, but she does love my fettucini alfredo :) Mine will go through phases with all her veggies, for a few days she loves carrots, then one day, they end up in the bottom of the cage for a few weeks at a time. Fortunately I have a lot of animals so veggies don't go to waste and always a different variety of them lol.

Carrots, peas, spinach, green beans, beets, apples, oranges, pineapple, broccoli, cheerios, like I said, whatever we're eating she's gets a little bit of it. If we're having spaghetti, she'll get a few noodles and a half a meatball. She loves meat and pasta. I also always have a bowl of her ZuPreem pellet food out, and every 2 or 3 days I'll put a small amount of some seeds with her vitamin on the seeds.

Word wise, she's still a bit young, and she won't talk if you're right there by her....she's such a little sh*t...but she'll mimic me yelling for one of my daughters, my daughter will come in what? I didn't call you...lol. When the phone rings she'll say Hello, does the microwave/smoke detector sound and really loud too. Calls all the dogs and kids by name, cries like my 20 month old and screams like her too-these she'll do right as you're walking by loudly in your ear, says oh oh, few other things I can't remember...she's fun though.

I don't own an African Grey (although I would love to) but just wanted to point out that Greys in particular have a high calcium need compared to other parrots.

Some good sources of calcium include cuttlefish bone, broccoli, beet greens, spinach, yams and parsley. Also cereal that isn't high in sugar and artificial stuff, eg Cheerios is good. And natural yoghurt.

Also be aware of phosphorous levels. Birds need twice as much calcium as phosphorous. There are birds that get heaps of calcium rich food, but still have a calcium deficiency because the phosphorous absorbs all the calcium!
Food high in phosphorous includes beans, corn, rice, bananas, and grapes.

Also, vitamin D3 plays a large role in making sure the calcium and phosphorous is absorbed properly. You get D3 from unfiltered sunlight or a full spectrum light. It is reccomended that birds get at least 10-45 minutes of unfiltered sunlight a day for vitamin D to work.

I don't have a Grey, but I can tell you what our Quaker parrot loves the most-- Soup !!
Any nice lukewarm soup with veggies is a real favorite. If it has pasta or potatoes , that's even better! A small amount of meat makes it really "souper" , although we are careful not to give more than a tiny amount of meat because it can make a Parrot more aggressive because of the protein.

The way I understand it, warm soup ( not hot) reminds them of those Delicious warm meals that were regurgitated to them by mommy. YUMMY!!!! Therefore it is considered to be "Comfort food", and is a favorite of all Parrots.

The all time favorite is times when our Quaker gets to share my Clam chowder. You can tell by looking at him that life just doesn't get any better than this !!

As a final note, our bird is also a lover of potato chips. We tried to teach him to say "YAYYYY!!!" recently, but he immediately grasped the idea that this is an expression of great joy. So now whenever we say "YAYYYY!!!!", he joins in with a loud chorus of "CHIPPPP!!!!!!"

I have a great recipe for a breeder mash sandwich (sounds gross but they LOVE IT). It is good for all birds and the size of the sandwiches can be cut down to the appropriate size.
Get 4 eggs hard boiled and mash with the shell in a large bowl. (the shell provides very much needed calcium in the birds diet think cuttle bone). Add one can undrained kidney beans. Boil one package of uncle bens brown rice (minute rice) BROWN ONLY. Mash all together. Go to the pet store and get a small package of hand feeding formula (powder) I like Kaytee Exact for all birds but they do have formula for your Greys I have added chunky peanut butter to substitute. Add 1/2 cup to the mixture and one combined you will spread it between whole wheat bread and cut into fourths or smaller depending on your birds (mine grab them with their claws and eat it like a human it is funny to watch). I would give them this treat two times a week and no more than that. Other days I would provide fresh carrots, apples(without seeds), oranges(without seeds). And of course always provide the highest quality of a pellet diet or seed diet to your bird and FRESH water ALWAYS. Good luck an hope you guys like it as much as mine!

"Stormy" my African Gray likes apples, bananas, grapes, boiled eggs, & even boiled chicken. There are some foods you are NOT supposed to feed birds, I don't have the list handy right now though, so be careful what you feed him. What we like as humans isn't always good for birds. No coffee, milk, just to name 2. Also ya have to keep them away from certain kinds of flowers.

Our 5 month old grey is fed
like he is the king. Most of his food is home cooked, which I'll get to in a minute. As for pellets he gets (and not many either) Harrisons course pellets. Zu Preem, this stuff looks like rice crispiees only bigger. He gets nothing with dyes in it. His mush has azuki beans, chick peas, weat groats, maybe abit of romaine lettuce, wild rice, carrots, snap peas etc. He also get some sprotted things that my wife does up for him. And sprinked over the top is a small amount of alfalpha powder or wheat powder. He also gets a small amount of red palm oil and probiotics every day. I must add, all of his vegies and bean mix is washed in a mix of boiled water and vineger. As for fruit he has blueberrys, peaches, cherrys, pineapple, kiwi fruit, different types of mellon, papya etc. Also he really loves dates and fresh figs. Virgil also gets very little seed mix as we have been told it is like us drinking beer...taste good but not much there for health. I know I'm missing lots of his stuff here but if you get in touch, I'm sure my wife (Virgil's Maid) will send you a complete list. Oh yea....he also gets (rarely, but loves) steamed chicken and jalapeneos. These beautiful birds like spicy foods as there sense of taste is alot duller than humans. I would also suggest you never feed your babies pizza, bread, etc, unless you are making birdie bread. And we also never give him peanuts, but he does get wallnuts and almonds.I hope this helps you a bit.
