It's been sitting in the cabinet for 5 years at least. It's still in the bag and plastic wrapper. Unpopped. There is no expiration date to be found. Is it safe?

Sidenote: It's kettle-corn. Kettle-corn sucks. Who eats kettle-corn? But, I'm broke right now and beggars can't be choosers.

I wouldn't. Besides if your stomach is empty and you are hungry, it might give you a serious case of gas and that's no fun being doubled over with pain. Go and buy yourself a bunch of bananas. They're a lot healthier than popcorn. Or some yogurt. or a box of cold cereal. You can slice the banana into that. If you get sick from the popcorn, you'll be paying a lot more for doctor bills.

ughh I have had days where I have to resort to the untouched unpopped popcorn

I have a feeling it's safe.. today's food is pretty much full of preservatives so it's unlikely it will make you sick.

Kettle corn does kinda suck...

I just hope I never get so hungry/foodless I have to resort to the boyscout popcorn my father pity-bought

I don't know, 5 yrs is kinda long. Moisture might have got into the kernals, so might not pop as well. I'm not sure I would eat or not. . . I guess try and if smells and tastes all right enjoy.

My mom had a saying: "When in doubt, throw it out." As some one who's given himself food poisoning by his own cooking (dude, it was my first MONTH on my own! Leftovers...no way!), I can honestly tell you it is better to go hungry than to make yourself sick! That was the WORST. I would've been in the hospital if I'd had had insurance!

Save yourself the hurt man - just find something - anything - else!

Ew. Gross. No one can be THAT broke if they have internet access(which is like, expensive). Anyway, if a person is really broke, there's free food at a funeral or temples. So, no problem! And drink tap water.

Sure, as long as it doesn't smell rancid or have bugs in it. It probably will pop, though not as well as when it was fresh.
