I am 17 and I just started working at walmart. I got my first paycheck and my dad is all about having it direct deposited into the bank. He keeps on bringing it up. Why would he wanted it direct deposited in the bank instead of me just cashing it at work? Does he think I will go buy weed if its not direct deposited? He knows I smoke weed or he did.

Honey, in this day and age, parents are all about having children save their money. You are 17 and probably going to spend it on something that you'll regret later on anyway. Cut dad some slack, he's just trying to do the right thing for you. It's hard to spend if it's in the bank, and this way, you'll have money when you move out or for expenses you are bound to encounter along the way. It happens, he's just trying to make sure that you are prepared for those curve balls life throws at us.

Direct Deposit is by far the safest way to handle your paycheck. Not only will it save you from some creep stealing your check, but it will help you start to look to the future and perhaps save for something you really want. I really hope you don't let it all go up in smoke.

Carrying too much cash can make you a target.
Also it's a good thing to have to think twice about
spending more than the small amount you would
generally carry.
You'd be surprised how much money you don't
spend if you think twice.

he probably just doesn't want you to have a lot of money with you at once..because as a parent he probably thinks you will spend it all right away...so if you have direct deposit they think you will save it
