very good points.♦ As an Xchristian who is new to embracing atheism I am just beginning to see how I was manipulated and kept confused for so many years. I felt like a failure because I could not 'find'god and I was tired of looking.♦

Wow that was amazing to watch. I for one didn't realize that as an atheist in the U.S, you could be so vilified and basically treated as a second class citizen.
That was both enlightening and disturbing, to think that a Democratic Country in this day and age could still restrict both City and State Officials to those that believe in God is just ridiculous.
It was a perfect example of why, we as a people need to remember that Church and State should always remain separate. If we don't, persecution and prejudice can be allowed to run wild under the guise of Religious beliefs.
It sadly makes me think of what the U.S will be like in the future, I hope that it doesn't become a Truly Christian State, as that is a worry not only for it's residents but the entire world.
That would bring about the "end of times", as the religious types might call it, in the shape of a Christian/Muslim Holy war, talk about going back to the Middle Ages.
Or is that what we are seeing occurring in the Middle East at this present time?

One should keep in mind that what a person say or does is a reflection of what is in abundance within themselves. When an atheist will go off on a theist, its cuz anger is in abundance within them.

Then the quesiton would become WHY ARE THEY ANGERY? What have they SEEN or EXPERIENCED to justify such emotional attachment or meaning. One has to CARE to hate something. Else it would have no more meaning than a grain of sand or an ant crawling across the ground.

In that case, each and every atheist is an individual with individual experiences that brought them to the point. In many ways though, it depends on the definitions that that person has given to religion.

In some cases, the atheist has researched the religion, found it to be 'not truth' and shares that information. In some cases, the atheist is fighting against the 'enslavement' that religion places upon people.

Perhaps its really not important WHY they do care, but greater meaning perhaps should be placed on that they DO care.

When a person cares enough to get off the couch, lay the potato chips aside, and actually DO something that is the important part. One could say that they are being INSPIRED.

I've seen the video and it does a nice job of telling the basic reasons for atheists to be interested in religion, mostly focusing on politics and the dangers that any large group can bring about in that arena; but, beyond that there's another reason that I feel attached to religion and it's one that has been neglected by the film. Religion is all about people and when people are all about religion, I get curious.

I'm inclined to think that there's more to be said on the subject of why atheists hang out in the R/S section here on Yahoo and I'll touch on the one big one that's the most important part of my answer.

Personally, I'm as concerned as the next non-believer about the things the video had to say, about the political imbalance, but I'm also concerned with the age old question of whether God is real or not. In my own mind, there's no doubt at all that God's just a fantasy, and that makes me want to know how it happens that others have been swayed to believe something that I can't even begin to put faith in. One of us, either me or my god-believing neighbor, has it all wrong and I'm pretty certain I know which it is. So, that's it... my one biggest reasons for being here is to find out what the heck went wrong with my neighbor. as soon as I find out, I'll let y'all know, OK?

This is worth a look... http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb62/Randall_Fleck/Bad_laws_GIF_01.gif

In the mean time, if I can, I'll persuade as many people as I can to rethink their way through their beliefs and if I can get them to do that then all will be well, won't it?

very well done and I knew it already but what I really liked was the George Carlin monologue on religion that I caught as well
an after thought is that it is a pity to see the secular wisdom of our little understood or taught forefathers constitution eroded under the political force of religious groups . A country free from religious favoritism for all may some day just disappear without the courage of those who realize and are willing to stand for freedom for all

I thought I had enough reasons to be here before watching that video. Now I feel like getting involved and taking religion seriously for a change.

Although I can always move back to Japan where there are A LOT less problems concerning religion, I feel like something really needs to be done here, starting with equality.

Just imagine, a country as powerful as the United States, 100% under the control of Christians and ready to do whatever it takes to convert the rest of the world into their belief system. It's like a second holocaust and history is repeating itself very much like what happened in Germany. Slowly, and unnoticeably.

I love that video and it expresses my sentiments perfectly. There are many things that people are interested in that don't affect me at all. Devotion to sports teams for example. But religion is a different story entirely. If people could have faith in their god(s) of choice and leave me alone, and not affect the laws of my country with their dogma, I would leave religion alone as well. But that is not the case. Therefore I care.

i read details :) the video has many a good answers to this frequently asked question. a minor point perhaps: i have to wonder why some people, when confronted with religiously inspired terrorism, think that the solution is to be even more zealous about their own religion.

I am sorry but "Live for Jesus" is either lying or seriously out to lunch. I have no belief in God(s) at all and I seriously doubt if my opinion is likely to change this late in life. I am certainly not worried about other peoples opinions.

Yes, I like most of the stuff that the Rational people do. I have seen this video before.
