watch this video of this stafford shire bull terrier ( one of the many breeds catagorized as a pit bull) does this look like a killing machine to you? If this doesn't convince you pitts are nice then what will?

I don't need convincing. I had three dogs until about three weeks ago. A Chi/Rat terrier mix, Bear. A Beagle, Snoopy. An APBT, Honey, the youngest. The are all people dogs and love everyone. I was concerned about dog aggression of the Pit when we got another APBT puppy, Lilly. The first couple of days Honey would growl and snap at the puppy. Now it is so funny to see the 55 lb Pit running through the playing with the 11 lb puppy. Well it is usually all four of them running through the house.

No THAT dog does not seem to be vicious. But one thing people do not understand when they judge pit bulls, is why they got a bad reputation in the first place. Yes they were bred to fight but there is more to the story than that. Because of inbreeding to keep the bit bulls full blooded, (and ALOT of people do that) it can cause them to have a defect with their skull. It is too small for the size of their brain, and can create pressure on the exact part of the brain that controls anger and aggressive behavior. That's why you hear those stories of pit bulls turning on their owners even after a long, healthy, abuse free life. When that happens, the event is even out of the dogs control, pretty much. So even though that dog looks adorable and sweet, I wouldn't trust it. That's not to say that it will or wont someday turn.... But you never know. Which is why I would probably never take that chance unless I had proof of it's bloodline and where and how it was born. And it is not only in pit bulls. Other fighting dogs such as Rotties and Doberman Pinchers have been known to share the same risk of deformity. So before you go off assuming that everyone thinks pit bulls are mean and no one understands, Maybe you should try to understand why people feel this way in the first place. There is logic, truth, facts, and science behind it. And you can't deny the stories of people being attacked and killed by those types of dogs. Yes I'm sure people have been attacked by every other type of dog out there too. But numbers don't lie. And just because you choose to ignore the facts, because for some reason you have a fancy for those breeds doesn't mean they are not there. It's attitudes like that that put most people in danger in the first place. Again: I am not speeking against EVERY pit bull or "fighting" dog. I know there are plenty that will go an entire lifetime without hurting a fly. But you have to recognize that those particular breeds do pose more of a threat simply because of the way they are born. And there is no way to tell the difference. No, it's not fair, but it's the truth.

Well, first, that's definitely not a Staffie..it says a Pit Bull in the title/description...Staffordshire Bull Terriers do not have cropped ears ever(very serious fault to do so) and have a very specific type/look to them, easy pick one out over a Pit or AmStaff.

But to address your question...I have no problems with Pits or any of the similar breeds, and the video does not surprise me in the least.. I own a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and have worked with a lot of Pits at the vet clinic and love them. They're wonderful dogs.

I don't have to watch a video and be convinced.

Pitts have been long misunderstood.

You can thank those who breed Pitts for their own gain. They're more vicious than the dogs they train for profit.

Pitts are as normal as any other dog until they get into the wrong hands.

I hope you're not talking about the person who just asked a question about his dog. If you are (I hope I'm wrong) his circumstances are totally different then what you are saying. If I'm not wrong, then I success you re-read his question and not make judgements.

I wouldn't call that dog vicious if ate one of the chicks, people have irrational fears of these animal, and they are now making laws. People are always quick to say that "pit bulls" have killed people before, that is because those dogs where either ill trained or where abused in the past. My pit bull is the most pathetic thing ever yet everyone backs away from my dog if it approaches them because they have heard that they are dangerous, and that is a bunch of BS.

I love diva dog.

Edit: Halla, yes I own one, I grew up with dobes and rots, my friend has 4 rescue pits that are all angels. Think about it Dog attacks kill 3 children a year... 7 children a DAY are killed by their own parents, an avg of 10 people are killed a day in Iraq, Disease, hunger and poverty kills countless every year. There are bigger things to worry about than what dog breeds are "dangerous".

oh my gosh. the first video with the little baby chicks is SOOO CUTE!! The dog is laying right down next to them and nuzzling them. That video is 100% adorable. And I agree with you , there are A LOT of nice pits out there. They just get a bad rap from lunatics that fight them.
