Is there a high risk of death when you neuter your cat?

As with most surgeries there is always a minor risk, but neutering is a routine operation that your vet will have already performed many times. The vet will also examine your cat before surgery to make sure that he is fit and healthy enough. Males recover much quicker than females as the surgery is a lot less invasive.

It's perfectly natural for you too be a little worried, all pet lovers are when our animals need surgery, but in all honesty, having him neutered is one of the best things that you can ever do for your cat.

Intact toms are at greater risk of testicular cancer and prostate problems which can be severe enough to prevent passage of urine, leading to a ruptured bladder and death.
They will also fight over territory and the right to mate a female. In fighting, they spread and contract incurable FeLV and FIV. Intact toms will often begin spraying to mark territory when they reach sexual maturity, which can be a problem to stop once the habit has begun.

First of all, you're doing the right thing. Too many cats without homes and shelters are over flowing.

This is a simple procedure. Wouldn't think there's a high risk here.

We all take risks most every day and we're still alive.

Stop talking death. Everything will turn out just fine.

No there's not, mostly because it's not internal surgery, they can reach everything from the outside. So the only cause for concern is what kind of anesthetic is used. There's a gas and there's an injectable kind. Ask which they use and ask which one is gotten out of the cat's system faster. I think the gas is fastest, which doesn't stress the heart/lung/organs as much.

It's a simple proceedure, almost all the time. Usually the only complications would be if one of the testes wasn't descended so they couldn't get it all.

theres always a small risk of complications from anesthesia but the risk is very low. if you have a strong, healthy cat there will be no problem and the cat will heal very fast. the vet will tell you to put shreded paper in the catpan. this will help keep the stitches clean. if you are REALLY worried, and have the money, there are pre-operative tests the vet can do. ask your vet. good luck!

No,it's very safe.Just make sure you don't let the cat eat or drink tonight. To neuter a male cat only takes about 15 minutes,so the anesthesia they use isn't very heavy one.I've had dozens of cats and dogs spayed or neutered and never had a problem.Your cat will be happier and healthier, less likely to roam and fight, and won't be able to make more kitties!

Mmm I dont really think so...But there probably is a chance that something could go wrong..

But getting your cat neutured is probably one of the best things you can do for it..

When you do this...their health is alot better...They tend to become more active and seem more happier...Also it helps to prevent disease that has to do with his testicals and etc...

Also if your cat was an underweight problem getting them neutured or spayed will help them gain weight..

But I dont think there is a high risk of death when you get this done...

I believe that there are a lot of benefits of getting your cat spayed or neutered. It is a very routine surgery. I know exactly how you feel though. I was worried about my kitty. We just had her spayed and I was very worried about her. We had to leave her all day and I didn't know how she would be when she came home. She is just about 1 week out and she is doing fine. She still has to wear her "lamp shade" because she wants to get her stiches. She got back to normal pretty quickly. She was just a little tired. I did a lot of looking online about to make myself feel better. Your kitty should be fine.

No, infact there is a VERY low chance anything can go wrong. Your vet will have most likely done many of these and knows what they are doing. If you are still worried, talk to the vet (or your parents if you are too young) about your concerns and hopefully they will be able to calm your fears

not especially.. a good vet can do the procedure in under 20 minutes.. i've watched it done... but as with any surgery, there is a risk.. so.. ask about it! any questions you have.. ask. vets will answer any questions they know the answers to.. but, honestly, as long as your cat is healthy, dont worry. i have been through it with A LOT of cats, and have yet to have even heard of one dying during surgery..
