How can anyone say that the bible is the word of God after reading what it is in it?

How can anyone believe that is the word of a GOD?

CHRISTIANS READ YOUR BIBLE!
Ezekiel 23:20

20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

Ezek. 4:12 says, "Eat the food as you would a barley cake; bake it in the sight of the people, using human excrement as fuel."

2 Kings 18:27 (King James Version) 27But Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?

Num. 31:31-40 says, "Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses. The plunder remaining from the spoils that the soldiers took was 675,000 sheep, 72,000 cattle, 61,000 donkeys and 32,000 women who had never slept with a man.... And the half, the portion of those who had gone out to war, was....16,000 people, of which the tribute for the Lord was 32."
Women rank right up there with cattle, donkeys, and sheep. And they have to be virgins, at that! Imagine a righteous and perfect God wanting 32 virgins to be set aside for himself!

Lev. 26:29 says, "Ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughter shall ye eat." Jer. 19:9 says, "I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another's flesh during the stress of the siege imposed on them by the enemies who seek their lives." Ezek. 5:10 says, "In your midst fathers will eat their children, and children will eat their fathers. I will inflict punishment on you and will scatter all your survivors to the winds." Isaiah 49:26 says, "I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh; they will be drunk on their own blood, as with wine...." And in John 6:53-54 Jesus says, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

What i don't get is how in the event that they do examine their Bible they could end an all understanding, suitable, God of love!?? there are entire books (Leviticus consists of suggestions) that fairly merely bypass on and on approximately how God loves sacrifices. the thank you to kill issues, the thank you to cut them up, the thank you to sprinkle the blood all around so he can scent it by way of fact it pleases him, and to burn it by way of fact the scent of burning flesh is "a candy have relaxing with for the Lord." Or the Jepthath's daughter tale the place the guy supplies to grant a burnt sacrifice of what he sees first on returning domicile if God will enable him be powerful in conflict. So his daughter greets him and receives to be a burnt offering to delight their Lord. Its sick bronze age tribal stuff. regardless of if there have been a God like that i does not be waiting to worship it. i will take my possibilities with reason and cutting-part awareness of the worldwide thank you.

It's like the old school version of the Showcase Showdown.

As a studied atheist from childhood I've always felt the religionists read their texts without comprehension, in order to have an assembly of quotes out of context to use instead of thinking. But then, I was expelled from religious instruction classes at school, because I corrected an idiot minister on something he misquoted (with authority) from the Bible. He had conniptions! The Headmaster had a chuckle. I got an hour off each week to read, and chose to explore whatever I thought I might learn some wisdom from - by reasoned argument, or by dispute. Should be more of it. (I also brought the wrath of the righteous down on my head years later when I suggested to our local capital city newspaper that they might include wise sayings from many international philosophers, instead of only meaningless cryptic quotations from the Bible, at the foot of their editorials - such is life).

Christians especially fundamentalists have a habit of assuming everything in the Bible is good and true. Therefore when they find theh bad parts they skip around them and focus on the good messages. As a teenager I always had doubts of Christianity. I decided when I was 17 to read the entire Bible. It took me almost a year but by the time I had finished I realized what a huge load of crap it is. It is contradictory and actually rather evil. The God of the Old Testament is jealous, evil, murderous, racist, and a bigot. You must assume that means the God of the New Testament is the same.

Truth is UNKNOWN.....................man kind created an excuse to feel alright about ourselves. Which I think is nothing wrong with it as long as it does not harm others in the name of whatever religion they have a faith in. Christianity or not. So far Buddhists are the only group of people I have met who does not kill, and most compassionate (in general speaking of course). It really comes down to "the truth is unknown" Wish, hope, faith is just that...we do not know, we can not. That is the reality.

I read what's in it - more than 5 times, cover to cover, not just a few verses here and there. It gave *me* faith.

This Agnostic has read the Bible, the Book of Mormon, just started the Qur'an, and has a series of other religious texts waiting to be read.

That's a horrible thing to say. Your a very rude person. Us agnostics feel the same way as atheists and are just as appalled by the bible but you left us out.

No not only atheists have read the bible. I have read the bible and I am a muslim. Unfortunately the text is not credible due to the changes that have happened to it over time and the passages you bring illustrates the point.
