Lots of insectivorous plants grow in very acidic soils with pH of 4.5-5.5. The low pH prevents nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, & sulfur from being readily available.

Amber and CO are the best. That's why they're carnivorous; they get their nitrogen from the animal proteins.

I think its variable, but nitrogen is probably the limiting factor.
