congrats on quitting! from afellow ex smoker...agitation goes away in a couple weeks. think happy thoughts. i had the most intense cravings about 2-3 weeks after quitting. so did a good friend. actual "cravings" usually only last 10 - 15 minutes. and usually i wanted a smoke when i was ticked off about something. i found that it helped to vent. and suckers help too. good luck

I will admit that even after eight years of not smoking, I STILL have dreams that I am smoking. I wake up either being terrified that I started smoking again, or feeling like I just found my best friend again. I have always said that if I ever came down with a terminal disease, the first thing I would do is pick up a smoke, but in all honesty, I don't think I really would. Use all the resources you can to quit, personally, I used the patch and absolutely swear by it. I had no physical withdrawal symptoms at all. Well, except for the smoking dreams that is. Best thing I ever did. So, to answer your question, the cravings last as long as you let them. You will replace the smoking craving with something else. Just choose a good replacement.

I too, had my most intense cravings after about 2 weeks. I really wanted a butt. What I did was chew gum. After about a month, the cravings diminished but didn't really go away until 3 months after I stopped. Also, I did not drink alcohol since that was an activity that I knew would increase the cravings.

Anyway, that was 1985. I haven't smoked since. If you're trying it "cold turkey" which is what I did, you'll probably have a similar experience. Back then, we didn't have all these nicotine patches and gums. If you're doing it "cold turkey" and don't think you can make it, try one of the nicotine substitute products.

I'm about to findout myself. I'm taking Chantix to quit smoking and I'm going to try to go my first day tomorrow. Honestly though, the Chantix doesn't seem to be doing much besides giving me weird dreams.

EDIT: congrats on the 7 days smoke free by the way

depends on how long you smoked. if it was 5 years or more my best guess would be
3 to 6 months to get back to normal if you don't cheat. to use an advertising expression "your results may vary".

to get over the hump you have to be totally committed. its not easy but with the proper motivation it can be done.
