I want to buy a home theatre projector from amazon. The new ones are $899. Used are in the 600 to 700 range, but that have one refurbished one for 486.99. Yay or Nay???!!!

well, if they're refurbished, obviously there was something wrong with them... I actually trust plain old "used" better.

Refurbished is often BETTER THAN NEW (but not ALWAYS).

Refurbished usually comes with the SAME WARRANTY AS NEW.

Refurbished can mean that they replaced what was bad engineering on the original with the latest upgrade.

DISCLAIMER: none of this applies to refurbished cable TV company boxes...they're ALL junk! And since you can only rent a cable box, they don't have to care whether it lasts like something you buy to own.

AS FAR AS PROJECTORS GO: there are so many out there. And anything new under a $1000 is not going to project movies very well, those are built for computer PowerPoint presentations, not home theaters.

DO AS MUCH RESEARCH AS YOU CAN STAND. Go to projectorcentral-dot-com and read up. Talk to the people at Projectus-dot-com.

You cannot trust a lot of internet refurbished sellers however. Only a handful are good, the rest can be very shady.

I have bought several as well and have had no issues. Also on an other note. One poster said this:

That is absolutely not true. I have 3 setups at home in HD and NONE of them cost $1000 new. They are DLP projectors that are 720p and have plenty high enough Contrasy and lumens to do the job. I even have one outside that will blow you away.

Hi.First of all there are two types,Refurbished and Factory Refurbished. Factory Refurbished products differ from other refurbished products because they are restored to the exact manufacturer specifications by the original manufacturer in a certified refurbishing center. In addition ,these products typically come with the added advantage of a manufacturer warranty. These unused or used items have been returned to original manufacturers for various reasons such as :used in displays or cancellations. They are worth considering if you don't want to pay the price of new equipment.

while reading a written booklet, you're stimulating your brain. You better your literacy and reading skills so you in the process, become more literate. Despite having today's modern tools, you nevertheless still need to have the ability to read.
While watching t.v. can be good fun, it is not doing anything to your brain.
