Metastisis to the lymph nodes means that this a highly progressed cancer! The odds of him surviving 5 years are 5%. Its nasty, that is how my grandpa died, and it is how two of my friend's dads died. Your body goes downhill very rapidly and the chemo or radiation does not effect it very well.

I would say enjoy every day you have now with your "homeboy" and pray for a miracle!

Ok, the primary site has been surgically removed, but there has been some spread to the lymph nodes.

This is being treated with radiation.

You haven't mentioned chemo, so it would seem that he isn't needing this.

If the Dr thinks radiation without chemo is enough then he has pretty good survival chances, despite the spread.

He will probably feel like cr@p for quite a while, but should recover.

it varies from case to case. Do you what stage his cancer is in? why not ask your friend the prognosis he has been given? The good news is that he is doing radiation- that means the doctor still has hope, otherwise he would be "making the patient as comfortable as possible". Good Luck.

This is NOT lymphoma. This is metastatic esophageal cancer. This puts him at least at stage III. If many LNs are involved, especially in distal areas, the outlook is not good.
